Question to old school ULM fans...
according to wikipedia and EA Sports, it lists AstAte as rival to y'all in addition to la la.
I was just curious if any of you remember the "trail of tears" classic as I've heard thrown around the web before and/or if you do view the red wolves as a rivalry?

Not a ULM fan but Wikipedia is the only place I've heard the series called that.

Do you have any reference to anyone in radio, TV, newspaper in Arkansas using the term, I searched the database of old posts from the Den and all I found was someone asking where did that come from because they had never heard it and no one else had either.
Maybe its a Monroe thing because I've never met an AState fan who used the term.

I've never heard it before either, but I do consider ASU a friendly rival mainly because of our long history together. I have a lot of respect for your program as do most ULM fans.

Our fans usually call it, "**** we've got to go to Monroe and it will be a crazy close game".
Not as catchy as the one someone created for Wikipedia I suppose.

As for our games in Jonesboro, maybe they followed me back from the last five or 6 and that's where they got the name. Lol.

Kolton Browning came up with it after we beat him all 4 of his seasons in Monroe.

Didn't he win one in Monroe? Maybe not. If not, that's probably where it came from. Lol.

We beat you the last two times in Monroe, and you haven't beaten us in Jonesboro for a while.

Actually, Chiefsfan, ASU beat Browning three times since he didn't play in the 2012 game. Our backup QB passed for 357 yards in that game (that was tied at 17-17 in the third quarter) so I have to wonder how Browning would have done since '12 was a great year for him.
As to the original question on this thread, I graduated from ULM in 1977 and I never heard of the "Trail of Tears" in relation to the ULM-ASU series. I like Arkansas State (have friends from there) but I think that slogan was thought up in Jonesboro and it never got much further out from there.

I wish I could find more "substantial" stuff on it but those two links are the really only definitive thing I could find so far. Truth be told I hope it's not the case because though I'm not a PC individual, I'd definitely say "Trail of Tears Classic" is a iffy name for a rivalry lol.

RE: Question to old school ULM fans...
The only place I've ever seen it is Wikipedia.
It needs to be deleted because it is inaccurate.
We have three rivalries that I know of....
1) Arkansas, only possible if they get trapped into a postseason game with us they can't wriggle out of
2) Memphis, currently starting another dormant cycle because we were winning too much
3) LaTech, dormant because fights tended to break out
The Trail of Tears thing needs to go away.

Except none of our fans know it either.
My guess is someone thought it'd be a neat name for a game matching two Indian named teams and updated Wikipedia to add it and probably had no connection to either school.

That's what I was thinking as well. It'd be kinda catchy if both schools were still Indians or if either had ever heard of it.
