And even that program isn't quite as strong as some are suggesting having been unable to win a regular season title in seven seasons in a league made up of random pieces holding on for dear life. But they certainly do a have a great history.

...and yet you are still Liberty

And proud of it. And you clearly aren't familiar with travel times if you think it is few minutes further from Austin or DFW. But ATL gys aren't typically as up on anything west of Alabama.

I support NMSU in all sports. But Las Cruces is a LONG way from San Marcos. Its not drivable. Its actually an extra HOUR flight than San Antonio. Las Cruces is a 9 hour drive from San Marcos.

Just curious.

I'm pretty certain there are several ADs of eastern schools that are not in favor of adding NMSU because of the expense of travel for all sports.

Exactly. Only a few Athletics dept are in the black at the end of the year. None of them in the SBC. You could probably add NMSU basketball but not the other sports. Once a year, I would assume USA hoops (men and women) would travel together. Ladies hoops in the afternoon and mens hoops that evening and then charter flight back to Mobile.

And I travel to the Rio Grande Valley annually.

How will basketball travel go ( with or without adding NMSU )?

So, without further moves, SunBelt Olympics look like:

West
UTA/Tstate
ASU/UALR
Umon/ULaf

East
USA/Troy
Gstate/Gso
AppState

Correct?

Divisions are the way to go ( play twice in division, once out to reduce travel ).
And travel partners are the way to go.

That may argue for adding a travel partner for AppState, even though I'd like to see NMSU in the SunBelt.

If a Texas school comes on, it would work NMSU in, probably as a travel partner with UTA.

Things will probably change - keep me posted.

This might work as travel partners....but no divisions

Arkansas State/UALR
Appalachian State/Georgia State
Georgia Southern/South Alabama
Troy/ULM
ULL/UTA
TxSt/NMSU

Not ideal...but workable for now.

At least Liberty is now out of consideration.

Or maybe you get creative.

No divisions, but schedule by regions

NMSU--- (UTA/Tst)-(ASU/UALR) ---(Umon/Ulaf)--- (USA/Troy)-(Gst/Gso) ---AppState

Lousiana schools become the pivot.
That is, NMSU plays one LA school twice, AppState plays the other LA school twice.

Other than that, play the five closest regional schools twice, the farthest six schools once for a 16 game schedule.
