Freedom of expression is a beautiful thing about living in a free society.

My problem is I come to these threads looking for rumors, news, information about realignment, and the wild scenarios tossed around clutter it up. I don't have a problem with it generally, but I'm more interested in fact than fiction.

... JMU is left out and Ohio stays where they are...why would they move???
But then, if you recognize that you can't just swap some schools like baseball cards, why not the rest? For instance, why in the world would LA Tech move to a conference containing ULM? It seems a lot more likely that they would stay put than move.

The "sit down and have a summit" just won't work ... the "summit" will deadlock and nothing will happen. Scratch underneath the surface, and it's still imagining conferences trading schools like trading baseball cards, which isn't how it works.

Now the Western CUSA schools could indeed bolt to the Sunbelt if they wanted to, and if they did, it might set off some partial geographic consolidation but ...

... (1) likely far from perfect, for reasons like the LA Tech / ULM scenario, and also because its just as possible that CUSA makes a smaller counter-raid than a big one, leaving a lot of overlap still in place ...

... and (2) they'd have to want to move first, or the ball doesn't get rolling in the first place, and things would have to shift a ways from where they are now, in terms of both media money and bowl lineups, for them to want to move.
[/quote/]

This is a hypothetical post in case you didn't know. This post is about reconfiguring the CUSA and Belt teams that would make more sense.... while realizing making sense doesn't happen...

Yes, but the double standard question applies ... why leave OhioU to one side on the argument that they wouldn't move, while including LA Tech bolting CUSA to come play alongside ULM, which they equally well wouldn't do. A reconfiguration that "makes sense" has to make sense to the schools doing the moving.

Note that the original topic for this thread was not hypothetical at all, but was referring to an article about an actual meeting taking place in this actual month in this actual year among the actual people with the authority to vote realignment moves up or down. It just kind of wandered away from that into games of Fantasy Realignment Risk because either there are no major moves coming up in the real world, or else they are being unusually good at keeping it quiet.

Seriously, two pages of crap just like this?

Conference realignment fever has had people losing their minds for two years.

I don't mind most of it. But my God, actually predicting the divisions of the conferences that will never happen, while totally forgetting programs and including those that would NEVER make this move, is where I have to draw the line.

And this is coming from the guy that spent an hour on conference realignment in his NCAA 14 dynasty. At least I know that my conference moves in the game are fictional and will never happen.

If y'all wanna talk crazy conference realignment, then join FloridaJag over at the Conference Realignment board. If you want to talk REALISTIC AND INFORMATIONAL conference realignment issues, then post it here.

I can't believe y'all took my summit comment seriously. I know it's never going to happen. Realignment must really be dead this year if the conversation has come to this. All that "insider info" seems to have dried up so now it's back to NCAA Dynasty mode scenarios.

Realignment may be finished, period. With there no longer being a requirement of 12 members for a conference to have a championship game, there is no reason for the Big 12 to add anyone else and start a ripple effect that would eventually affect the SBC. The only opening right now would be the one spot available in the SBC, and I think you guys may stay put at 11 members unless JMU changes its position. I would.

Don't get me wrong, NCAA Dynasty conferences is my jam. I made all conferences based strictly on geography, no matter the size of the program. I also got rid of AQ tie-ins because all conferences are based on geography, and not program size therefor there is no need for AQs.
For example, South Alabama just upset Ole Miss and Auburn in two straight weeks.

Curse them for canceling that game right when App State was about to be added!

Think NMSU will be admitted full member.
Most likely, but not too much, UMass temporary.
Could be wrong, just a guess.

Still very quiet on the expansion front. SBC meetings next Sunday-Wednesday and we are hearing almost nothing a few days in advance of them. It sure seems like nothing is going to happen.

Realignment is NEVER finished.

There are quiet periods and busy periods but it never ends.

Existing league memberships become too disparate to continue to function effectively causing break-ups. Economic or other conditions force schools to de-emphasize athletics or dramatically reduce internal resources expended for athletics forcing the schools to change affiliations.

The market conditions change. The marketplace that caused B1G and SEC to expand with UArk, South Carolina, and Penn State, evolved into the market forces that killed the SWC and created the Big XII and began the absorption of Big East football into the ACC. The markets changed again and led to a new round of realignment by B1G, SEC, ACC, and Pac-10.

Eventually a new economic model will arise and disrupt the current alignments or the courts may change the economic model.

It is a natural process.
