RE: Would you rather - Heisman, NC, or P5
I'm here as a fan, not as the business guy for my school, and there's no doubt I'd take the national championship. Winning a national championship is what you're after at the start of the year. I know that a lot of the kids who have come to GS and, I assume, App State over the years came because of the chance to win the championship at that level.

If a national championship were actually a possibility for a Sun Belt (or CUSA or MAC) school, it would be because there was a playoff system in place that allowed those schools to qualify. Now, let's think a minute... would you like your chances better of being the best team in the SB, or one of the top 4 in the SEC? I'd say right off hand that I'd like GS's chances of winning the Sun Belt better than being even a top for team in the SEC. I used 4 SEC places just as an arbitrary number because in the divisions where there is an actual playoff, I don't remember seeing any conference ever get more than 4 invites.

Therefore, if I'm one of our schools, I'd rather take my chances of getting into the playoffs coming out of the Sun Belt than out of the SEC.

Would you rather
  1. Have a player win the Heisman
  2. Win an FBS National Championship.
  3. Obtain membership in a P5 conference

EDIT - There is no glass ceiling.
EDIT2 - Regarding the National Championship --Assume that you could legitimately win the championship from the SBC (say- all conference champs go to the playoff and your team wins it all )

This is a trick question. You cannot get one, or two without being in no. 3. The answer is three by default.

Once again, like many before you in the thread, you extrapolate and make assumptions. The question does not imply that the playoff includes a guaranteed spot for the Sun Belt, it truthfully doesn't even imply an annual guaranteed G5 spot, it could be a conditional scenario like we had during the BCS era where in this hypothetical you might be the Sun Belt champ eight times in twenty-five years, but you only qualify for the playoff that one time, whereas in a P5 conference perhaps you only win the conference three times in twenty-five years, but you get into the playoff all three times, plus a two more times as an at large.

As the OP of this thread, it's been interesting to see the breakdown and thoughts on the topic in this thread.

One thing is clear, nobody gives a crap about the Heisman. The 50/50 split on championship versus p5 was surprising, I didn't think it would be evenly split.

It is only split evenly because the GaSo and Appy guys have no real concept of how difficult it is in G5 to achieve anything substantive.

Actually, if you look at it... It's App fans (by ratio between NC or P5) driving that bus, while the Georgia Southern folks are far more 50/50.

But both us and App fans know how fun it is to win a national title, even if it is FCS titles. This is a hypothetical anyways, so really it doesn't matter what anyone says. Just be glad we are only a few months from kickoff.

This App fan voted for P5 membership, and it took all of about 1.5 seconds to come to that conclusion. That's the obvious answer.

Also, don't call us "Appy." 04-chairshot

HA! Yeah. Our official athletic branding is "App State." Most people use "Appy" as shorthand with no disrespect intended, but those low-life Marshall fans used "Appy," therefore most App fans hate hearing "Appy," though not as much as "App-a-lay-shun."

In all honesty, it's not a big deal, but it does really get under the skin of many Mountaineer fans.

App it is. Believe me; EVERY Cajun fan understands how irritating it is to have outsiders who know better disrespect your branding preference.
