RE: A question about beer at SBC fb games
The reason they don't sell beer at SEC games is simple. Do those fanbases need more alcohol? Every time there's an SEC game at a neutral site that sells beer, there's been a big increase in fights and arrests.

True. Plus, it matters if the facility is on or off campus in many of these scenarios. No booze on campus but an off campus venue is clear.

I think they've already said on here that's not true. I thought that was the case too,but apparently not.

Louisiana has been selling beer to the general population over 21 for a number of years. So far it has been a great success. We started doing it at the Tigue decades ago and I always got my one giant beer, and a fresh roasted bag of peanuts while the Cajun baseball team generally destroy the visitors.

Very few if any drunk issues at UL, but no beer at LSU and still plenty of problems with drunks there. Generally sneak a flask in and those guys are mean drunks who were drunk before walking to the ticket takers.

It's my experience that liquor has a much more negative effect in a lot of cases on the behavior (memory :) ) of people. It can really sneak up on you, and by the time a lot of people feel it, there is so much more in them waiting to be soaked into the blood stream that it is too late.

MAYBE - Beer sales cuts down on the incentive to smuggle liquor into the game? Now I have smuggled my share of beer in as well, but it is harder to do. If people know they can buy a beer, they might go with that and be less drunk? Some will still smuggle liquor, but it might actually lead to LESS fights, staggering drunks etc?

Seems plausible anyway.... let's send it to myth busters! :)

It's definitely not an NCAA thing but rather school rules, city and state law etc. Also there is the definition of "On Campus". If you visit Houston's stadium it appears to be ob campus but is actually across the street from campus and thus they can sell beer.

I would think if a school owns the stadium, it's on campus.
