The first 1.5 mile is flat. The second 1.6 is all uphill with a steady incline the whole way. My hips and calves were on fire all day Sunday. Very cool race and a great reason to run supporting a memorial wall for the GA National Guardsmen who died in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Still trying to find a good October race.
Time?
Abysmal
I've been running my flat 5ks in about 45 minutes (yes, I'm a turtle).
This one took me 54 minutes mostly because I was sure I was going to die at about 2.5 miles in.
No criticism from me. I think it's great that you're keeping at it. And as you improve, you know you've earned it.

Yea, but think of all the people you beat that didn't even attempt it. I didn't do one Saturday, so you beat me.
That's true and I didn't come in last. I was next to last in my age group and I think about 10 other people finished behind me. I'm not ashamed of it considering that 6 months ago I couldn't have even done this.

I honestly really enjoy it. I like being outside, I like having something to do and I've met some really nice people along the way. I think the thing that I love about the running is when you're still on the course and you see people that have finished they are so encouraging. Several people told me to keep moving and that I was almost close when I was probably about a 1/2 mile from the top of Kennesaw Mountain.
As for further training I plan on hitting that section of the battlefield a few times a week after work and then once on the weekends so that when the 4th annual assault occurs I will do even better.

I'll never tear anyone down for getting out there and giving it a try.. If you say, I wanted to do it but didn't want to wake up that early, you'll hear flack.. But if you're trying, I'll be as supportive as possible. I haven't done a 5k in over a year.. I need to sign up for one.

Sun, Mon, Tues, Wed = 29 miles. Wahoo!
Today, I will walk 5.5 miles or so.
I am thinking about reducing my walking to 5K and doing something like Power 90. I need to strengthen my core and arms.
Rock and roll!

My company has a 3mi fun run in both the spring and teh fall. Course is pretty easy, but return part is uphill.
My third run w/ the company, and I improved my time again. 25:45. Again, not stellar, but improving.

For my heart I power walk every day for at least an hour and I go out there rain or shine, cold or hot, sick or well. So far I'm at 4,322 straight days with only one missed day back on Saturday, May 3, 2008.

Good luck!
I completed a 5k this past weekend and my time keeps getting better so I'm pleased about that.
I have another race on 11/1 and then a Thanksgiving Day 5k where I'm trying to raise funds for a local charity.

Thanks! Actually, the half is after Thanksgiving.
On 11/1 I'm running in this: http://www.ribrun.org/
Run a mile, eat a rib. Run a mile, eat a rib. Run a mile, eat a rib.
What's not to love?

How did this race go? A rib run sounds amazing!
On 11/1 I ran in the Garden Gallop in Kennesaw with 40mph winds and a real feel of about 18 degrees. That was pretty darn miserable.
I ran in the Marietta Gobble Jog on Thanksgiving Day which was a really cool experience. I was able to raise $130 for Must Ministries prior to my run and the enthusiasm of the whole community made the event really special. I'll definitely do it again next year.
Next race up is on 12/13 with Sleighbells on the Square. I started back on with the C25k program after falling off the running wagon during November. Hoping that will get me up and going to really improve my time and endurance.
I'm also looking at going to Tampa to stay with my brother and run a 5k down there in February.

RE: Running/Jogging/Walking
It was fun.
The half was hard. I'd never run that far before. The course was nice, but 13.1 miles is a long way to run in the rain. Did it in 2:13:35 and didn't walk right for a week.
I've only run a couple of times since then. My work schedule has jacked up my running schedule. I need to get back on the horse.

Thank you, for keeping this thread going and "Congratulations", to all!
I have started to log in my meals at myfitnesspal.com. It sinks with an app on my smart phone, too. I noticed a few trends in my diet- I am eating too much sodium. I am also not getting enough vitamins. My neighbor lost 30 lbs by becoming more aware of what he is eating.
It is cold right now in Chicago. Walking will be tough. I have been visiting malls with the older people and can get in 2-3 miles.
Good luck, in 2015!

I am going to particpate in a couple Mud Runs this year. As a background, I have never run a race before. I run and lift 5 days a week as part of my normal workout routine. I typically get 3.0-3.5 miles in when I run.
Anyone ever run the Savage Race?

I've got a childhood friend that lives in Rhode Island that competes in a bunch of Mud Runs and Iron Man competitions all over the country. He also trains people for such things.

RE: Running/Jogging/Walking
So I thought I'd come back and bump this thread.
I started running with the Nike+ app recently and it has made a HUGE difference in my times already. I think it's mostly because it's forcing me to get out and get active multiple days a week which I was really lax on doing previously. I just ran a personal best 5k time of 42:47 on Saturday which still isn't amazing but it's 5 minutes faster than my average pace for the last year.
I am running in the Atlanta Dogwood Festival 5k on April 11 and then doing the Dirty Girl Mud Run on April 25. I was also just selected for the Peachtree Road Race on July 4 which is a 10k. It will be my first and while I'm terrified, I'm excited too.

Sounds like you're on a roll.
I've been struggling a bit to get back to a speed I'm happy with, so I haven't signed up for any races yet. At a minimum I'm hoping to run some longer distances (almost 7 miles today and hopefully 8 miles Saturday with a short run in between) and maybe take off 3-5 pounds. When I used to run I was about 20 lbs lighter so that's probably part of hit. Plus I'm 10 years older.
I also just bought a GPS watch. Which is good and bad. Good because I know my mile splits and total pace. Bad because the only way I can go for a casual jog is to leave the watch at home, otherwise the watch becomes my taskmaster.

RE: Running/Jogging/Walking
Ran in the Dogwood Festival 5k on Saturday. Another personal best and shaved 10 seconds off my time. It was a strong incline route with only one section going downhill for about a quarter of a mile. Next run is on April 25 in the Dirty Girl Mud Run here in Atlanta and then a 5k in Nashville on May 2.
