I agree with the stAte assessment and I like App State minus having Yosef on the helmet. Personally, I find Troy's helmets a little too complicated for the casual viewer. I think the sword T would be a much stronger visual for them.

My mother would really like the GA State unis because of the color. I don't mean that as a compliment, but then again as fans you have to play the hand you are dealt. I can't say I owned a lot of purple before my JMU days.

I respect the uber traditional uniforms like GA Southern, but I wouldn't put them, Bama or Penn State on my best of list.

Have the Cajuns switched to using the fleur-de-lis on their helmets (at least occasionally)? I saw that on the helmet project website and I like those better than spelling out the mascot.

That's my unbiased 2 cents...

Nope. Don't think I will ever "get off it". Never a good idea to set up more competition for yourself or your conference.

Our look came from Alabama legit. Our first set of jerseys were practice jerseys from Alabama. We kept the look because it's all we could afford. We had to use tape down the center of the helmet for stripe originally.

We are a blue collar type team and program, so it works for us....and we're damn proud of it.

I don't think we were going for the "blue collar" look and disagree that alabama gets to "claim" it solely. When Erk restarted the Georgia Southern football program all the school could provide for game threads were plain blue jerseys with numbers only, plain blue helmets and white practice pants which they used for both games and practice. Heck, the helmet stripe was made from plain white tape. I believe we simply were trying to do the most we could with what we had, which truly is blue collar.

You don't think we understand what competition means? Why don't you tell us about it since it seems GaSt is running away from it.
We all recruit against Penn State and everyone else. As hopefully GaSt starts to eventually do as well.

Not sure if you're referring to the old helmet or the new. The old one had jaguar head while the new has "Jags".

Anyway, I voted Arkansas State, even though I don't think any really stand out over the others.

Definitely the off-season. Here are my fashion critiques.

Troy - looks good but the shield stuff is too busy. Need to just go with the sword. Single iconic logo.

stAte - Best color combo until you get the white involved, block logo is a clear identity. One of my two favorites.

USA - hate to be rude but USA still looks mighty FCS. The line-drawing jaguar head needs a serious modernization. Pick blue, red, or white to be the main color. White helmet with Jags on it is way boring.

NMSU I've yet to see a helmet I like. The Pete character is too busy for a helmet. Need something iconic. Maybe just the hat or pistol or something...I dunno. I'd adjust the red slightly and make it a little richer red.

Cajuns - the Fleur-de-lis logo is the way to go. It looks very good. I don't like the script "Ragin' Cajuns". They do have good color combos. I also like the use of the chili pepper A LOT. I know some don't but I think it is very creative.

Georgia Southern I get where they are coming from but I just don't care for numbered helmets and purposefully not making yourself easily identifiable.

ULM - I like the logo but sometimes it just looks like an oval/swoosh from camera distance. I like the logo for the new field. Would like to see different helmet color. I do like the pants with the really broad side-stripe.

Idaho - I don't like the gold helmets, I do like the black ones with the I logo. One of the few helmet/logo combos that I prefer shiny.

App - I like the "A" logo a lot. They have some very good color combinations and I like them regardless of how they are arranged. The only thing I don't like is the cartoon hillbilly. Sorry guys.

Georgia State - I like the blue helmets with the modern looking GSU logo. I can't stand the script "Panthers". Not a fan of the FCS looking logo with the panther atop the text. The electric blue is a cool color.

We have a lot of muted or muddy colors amongst the Sun Belt teams. Georgia State's electric blue, App State's yellow, and stAte's scarlet are the standouts. Not much you can do about that except maybe in the case of USA who could allow either red or blue to dominate more. We have no green, no purple, no orange (unless UTA starts football again).

And finally, UALR needs an updated logo. Every version I've seen of their logo is almost invisible against the background. Their colors are also very muted/dim.

Now I think I'll go have some hot tea and discuss sheet thread-counts with my wife.

I totally agree about the "cartoon hillbilly". I wish they would get rid of it as a secondary image.
For those that do not know what we mean, this was readopted after we dropped it back in the 1970's or so.
A bald headed, pipe smoking half face Yosef, that college kids are expected to adopt.

That's a lot better.

Its a shame they can't use the sun symbol from the New Mexico flag. I think the New Mexico flag is one of the best state flags in the country. NMSU does use it in their seal, but they probably would run into Native American issues if they tried to incorporate it into an athletic logo.

So how do you achieve minus 20 whatever? Georgia Southern does very little to proactively do anything. We're defined by our beginning! We had no money and thankfully , as it turned out, didn't need it. That hasn't changed much. We start looking too pretty the troops will likely decent.

Georgia Southern' uniforms have won national attention, believe it or not, like them or not, for one of the best uniforms more than once.
