So if I have it right in the softball tournament 4 of the 8 teams go home on Day 1. Is that right?

RE: Softball matchups set
That seems a strange set up for a conference softball tournament. Here is the SoCon it is a DH tournament--- 2 pods of 4 teams with the winner of each pod playing a single championship game.

Yes, and the Final Four is double elimination

Except the title game ... leave it to softball to do something screwy, just like their all-conference team.

Pointless to do it this way.

It just seems very odd for baseball to have a 2 4-pod setup and softball to do something different where 4 teams only get to play 1 game and go home.

Hope your girls get sent home after day one. I only want the Cajuns to face teams that are beneficial to our RPI.

The setup is great for teams like USA and UL. Lessens the chance of facing RPI damaging teams and increases the chances of facing RPI beneficial teams. Also rewards the teams for their regular season.

Is this the way the Sun Belt has done it normally or is this the first year of doing it this way?

Softball has an interesting issue in that the bottom of the league is not very good and the top of the league is very good. I imagine the format is designed to help the high RPI teams near the top who have chances of hosting regionals by not being forced to face a low RPI team in the tourney.

I hate the format in the SoCon of going undefeated in your four-team pod, then playing a team that has lost once in a winner-take-all game, although the team who lost once had to play at least one extra game.

Its also pointless for ulm to bleed the rest of its sports dry just so its football team can make it it 6-6.

But here we are. I credit the conference with the foresight to protect its best teams and would wish they'd do the same in baseball.
