RE: BB: Weekend SBC Series May 2nd-4th
ASU gets its first ever win over a Top two program and beats the Cajuns today 6-4. True Freshman Tyler Zuber shuts out the Cajun bats in the 7th, 8th, and 9th to give time for ASU to comeback and win. We are now 12-0 this year in the final game of a series.

Remain tied for 2nd with red hot Texas State, with the tiebreaker.

ULM came back and beat WKU tonight, so The Toppers are now two back of the 2-3 spots.

Looks to be a good battle for second. TXST has home series with UALR next weekend and UTA on the road after that.

RE: BB: Weekend SBC Series May 2nd-4th
Standings:

ULL 20-4
ASU 15-9 (2-1 vs Texas State)
TX St 15-9 (1-2 vs ASU)
WKU 13-11 (2-1 vs ASU)
UTA 13-11 (1-2 vs ASU)
USA 10-13
GSU 9-15 (2-1 vs ASU)
ULM 9-15 (0-3 vs ASU)
---------------------------------------
Troy 8-15
UALR 7-17

Next Week:

ULL at USA
Troy at ASU
UALR at TX ST
WKU at UTA
GSU at ULM

ASU and TX State both clinched a tourney berth with wins today. Cajuns have a magic number of 2 to win the Conference title outright.

GSU could potentially go from the cellar to the six spot over the final month. Like I said last week the schedule played out perfectly for us to close the season. We play ULM next weekend and close with WKU. Both series will be tough but GSU can win both of those. Meanwhile the two teams we are battling for the last spot with have series against ASU (Troy) and UL (ULM) left. I like our chances to make the tournament at least. And then USA has a series against UL also.

ASU has a home series with Troy and travels to UALR after that. Talk about odd matchups. ASU is something like 6 -18 against Troy in program history...they own us, but we have won 16 of our last 18 against UALR.

The Cajun bullpen has been terrible lately as you saw in today's game.

They also blew a 4-1 9th inning lead in game 2 with UTA to lose 5-4.

Then earlier this week against SE Louisiana, they blew a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 8th to fall behind 5-4, thank goodness for Compton's heroic 9th inning 2 out, 2 RBI homer to win the game 6-5.

They just cant throw strikes. All their walks drive me crazy.

Just like today, they blow a 4-2 lead in the 7th by mainly walks. They better get it figured out for post season.

Congrats to ASU for taking advantage of the walks with timely hitting for the 6-4 win

You right, that's what the bottom line of my post says.

Coach Robichaux and myself said that our bullpen needs to throw strikes when they come in the game and not give up so many walks, especially with the defense the Cajuns have.

This game aside, like you said, ASU was definitely the better team today, the Cajuns couldn't hit.

My point is that the bullpen has been struggling to where the offense needs to try and bail them out.

I'm just saying that the bullpen needs to get it together before post season.

Congrats to Astate for winning today. They found a way to win today and hang on to 2nd place in the SBC. The Cajuns are still trying to get their bullpen straightened out and couldn't get the job done.

The Cajuns rpi remains in the top 7 at this time and we just need to keep winning series.

Not to question Robicheaux, but several of us at the game were confused why you guys chose to stick with a guy in the 7th and the 8th who had thrown less than an inning all year, and didn't try your luck with Bazzar, who looked nasty.

It seemed odd given how good his stuff is. I know we are very weak against lefty pitching...but the guy who was in wasn't throwing strikes.

We don't give up, that's for sure. 5th time this year we've lost the first two games of a series, but managed to win the last game and avoid the Sweep. If we could have gotten the errors straightened out this weekend, we might have pushed you guys a lot more than we did.

I want nothing to do with you guys in Mobile unless its Championship Sunday...hope we're on the other side of the bracket.

QUESTION!

App's coach got tossed today and is automatically suspended one game per SoCon rules. What's the Sun Belt's rules on a coach getting ejected.

I may not be right, but I believe he might be trying out new arms because of the fact that the old ones weren't getting the job done, and they might want to give some of the other guys some rest. Bazar is huge and throws as hard as any pitcher I can remember in a cajun uniform, that said though, he's still a freshman, and because of how hard he throws, he can fatigue quickly, so, probably why they didn't bring him on earlier.

I tell you this, the Cajun hitters couldn't figure the ASU pitching staff out all weekend.

Wallace striking out 12 and ASU pitching striking out 17 total in game 2 was impressive. No other team has been able to come close to that.

I was very impressed with ASU pitching throughout the series. The Cajuns had to manufacture the runs they got, all weekend

I not sure which pitcher you are talking about. Both RHP Matt Plitt and LHP Freshman Riley Cooper have both pitched more than an inning, unless they put a pitcher in that I missed by listening on the radio. You have me curious who it was?.

Cooper has only pitched 6.1 innnings and Plitt has pitched 39.

One thing is your bullpen shouldn't walk 3 and hit another batter in one inning, then give up a run on a wild pitch, especially for a top 5 team.

I was glad that Carson Baranik was able to go the distance in game 2 because lately I cringe when we have to go to the pen because they have been having trouble throwing strikes and hanging on to leads.

We were lucky to hang on to win game 1.

Robichaux is not too happy right now after hearing his post game talk. He sounded pretty PO'ed at his bullpen the way they have been pitching lately, especially after being an ex-pitcher himself

Remain tied for 2nd with red hot Texas State, with the tiebreaker.

ULM came back and beat WKU tonight, so The Toppers are now two back of the 2-3 spots.

I not sure which pitcher you are talking about. Both RHP Matt Plitt and LHP Freshman Riley Cooper have both pitched a good bit, unless they put a pitcher in that I missed by listening on the radio. You have me curious who it was?.

One thing is your bullpen shouldn't walk 3 and hit another batter in one inning, then in the next inning give up a run on a wild pitch, especially for a top 5 team.

I was glad that Carson Baranik was able to go the distance in game 2 because lately I cringe when we have to go to the pen because they have been having trouble throwing strikes and hanging on to leads.

Robichaux is not too happy right now after hearing his post game talk, especially after being an ex-pitcher himself

The Stats we had on Cooper indicated he had never thrown. Obviously it was a misprint.

Its a shame we couldn't field this weekend. Friday would have been a very different game if our fielders didn't get a case of the yips. We did get what I wanted though. Out of the weekend with a 2 game edge on WKU for 4th, and with the understanding that we can beat you guys should we meet again in Mobile.
