Realignment Score Card
Rank # 10 - Sun Belt
Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Idaho, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe, New Mexico State, South Alabama, Texas State, Troy
The Sun Belt can be considered a winner simply because it avoided the WAC's fate and is still breathing, even if it ended up taking on the WAC's two worst programs, Idaho and New Mexico State. There's at least some intrigue here: Louisiana-Lafayette may be a legit top-25 contender in 2014, and Appalachian State begins life as an FBS team with a trip to Ann Arbor in August

RE: Realignment Score Card
I think the SBC landed on its feet pretty well considering all the members it lost in such a short period of time. I think App St, GA St, TX St, and NM St are all excellent replacements for the members that were lost. Idaho is a good school, they just don't fit the geographical footprint of the SBC. Overall, I'd give the SBC a grade of B+ in realignment.

Guess you didn't like Georgia Southern's addition to the SBC since you didn't mention them.

That is simply a pre-season 2014 ranking of conferences, not a ranking of how well they faired in realignment. If it was that kingd of a ranking, the ACC would be at the top.

Why would the ACC be at the top? Because Notre Dame will play four games in the AAC? Remember they lost Maryland.

Yeah. Think that's why some people wanted to take EKU. As much as to tick them off as anything.

EKU is about location. To be honest out of all the schools that we lost I only want MTSU and WKU back. Even though I had a tremendous crush on Sadie Wells from FIU when I ran track at Louisiana. Those two schools were great!

SUNBELT SHOULD STAY AT 11 TEAMS
Karl Benson and the Sun Belt Conference are busy looking for a 12th member to add to its ranks. The Sun Belt, like many of the G5 conferences, is somewhat in flux right now because of ongoing realignment issues. With the recent losses of MTSU, North Texas,FIU and FAU, as well as the future loss of WKU, the Sun Belt is looking for both stability and a way forward as a cohesive conference. The Belt has looked at several schools recently but none have worked out so far. The Sun Belt set its sights on JMU, but have been rebuffed by the FCS school. JMU would have been a feather in the cap of Sun Belt. JMU maybe holding out for an offer from Conf USA or the MAC, neither however, have come for JMU. EKU recently announced that their application for the Sun Belt had been turned down. EKU represented an interesting choice for the Sun Belt, but one that in the end , was not what the Belt was looking for. Current rumors continue to swirl around Liberty University, as a possible for 12 member.
Perhaps however, the Sun Belt should not be so anxious to add a 12th school, as recent signs point to the NCAA allowing conferences to hold championship games without a 12th member. 11 members allows each of the members schools to keep more tv money( although it is the lowest amount among the G5 conferences) and to build the conference brand with its new schools. Karl Benson, however, maybe feeling the pressure to add a 12th school soon in case Conf USA decides to take from it ranks again. Unless however, the Sub Belt can somehow pull a rabbit out the hat and convince a team like Southern Miss or even UAB to join , it should wait and pick up a quality school, rather than make a desperate choice in bringing in unproven FCS schools. With schools like Ga Southern, App State, Ark State and ULL, the Sun Belt has a good nucleus of football centric schools. Mr. Benson should cool his heals and wait for the right school to come along that can compliment the hard working schools the conference already has in its stable.

Exactly, they lost Maryland and added Louisville. Big upgrade there. Plus, they added Syracuse and Pitt. In all, they raised the overall caliber of the conference by a greater degree than anyone else.

I like it but it doesn't take UMass into account. I think we all agree that its worth waiting on 12 for the right fit. UMass offers a stop gap until the fit is found.

Hope Karl and all the 12th member wantabee's read the article. We should follow the advice. Notice that he has Utah State ranked fourth in the G5, ahead of ULL. That game could turn out to be a great win for us.

I think losing Maryland will prove to be a bigger loss to the ACC than what people are willing to admit. They are in the middle of a dry spell but are on the upswing in football and basketball.
