1. Southern did not have 19 starters out. That is the biggest misinformation ever. MAYBE 19 starters from spring practice or something? Or maybe 19 players total? Check the depth chart for the Savannah State game and the UF game.

http://gseagles.com/documents/2013/11/20...pdf?id=221

18 similar starters. Give me a freakin break with your 19 starters out.

2. I completely agree the style of offense played a factor. Because UF didn't give two flips to prepare for it. They were in the midst of their worst season in 30 years, playing for an unpopular coach with a quarterback who at that point could barely throw the ball more than 10 yards down field because of a shoulder injury. There were some motivational issues.

3. The USC/UGA game is an even worse argument. First of all comparing two different games is moronic. But I was at all three games. Trust me. UF didn't play any better against USC than they did Southern. Muschamp had a good game plan and kelvin taylor ripped off two nice runs in the first half. That's it. There was nothing special they did against USC that they didn't do against Southern.

4. Stats are accumulated throughout the season. Sure UF had a top 10 defense. They also had that level of talent on the field at certain points of the season. If you are saying that UF had a top 10 defense on that day on the field than you are the biggest moron ever. UF first 5 games (healthy to somewhat healthy defense) allowed 217 yards per game. Last 7 games they allowed 383 yards per game.

Having said all of that, I swallowed my pride long ago and congratulated Southern for its biggest win in program history. My previous post was to simply point out that was their only win ever against an FBS opponent and should not be used as an argument that they should expect to be able to simply handle lower level SEC opponents. I also already admitted that wasn't what the poster said and that I had overreacted. Anyone else want to try me with some BS?

Pretty moronic to make a blanket statement of no FBS wins before the Florida game. A little bit of IQ put to work would quickly show that nearly all the games were against top 25 or better teams.

But, maybe you think a FCS team should beat top 25 teams.

Heck, GAST cant even beat an FCS team, I would have loved to see them play such a bad UF team.

I believe that UF's defense had those rankings even after they played us. So who was missing from their defense that lowered them so far from those rankings on the day they played us? I thought most of their injuries were on offense leading to their bad offense?
And uhm.. yea! They gave up a lot of yardage on their last few games!
They played Georgia Southern and Florida State! I think that had a lot to do with the big numbers late in the season.

So we had 19 Scholarship players out. The way we were beat up, they probably all had a starting position at some point in the season. 03-wink

Aren't UF's backups supposed to be 100 times better than our backups? Or even 10 times better than our starters?

Guess that makes them about 10,000 times better than GAST's starters?

Georgia Southern to play at Ole Miss in 2016
I am always amused when I am having conversations with Southern fans. Inevitably, despite the fact that the conversation has absolutely nothing to do with State football, they just can't help themselves. Did not post a single thing about GSU football yet half of the responses I got took the post there.

If G State beat Florida A&M in would be the best victory in their history.

You did not bring up State football, but you decided to pick apart our win vs an SEC school. When the team you pull for has won 1 game in two years and you try to downplay our successful teams win, you are begging for us to trash your team.

When healthy... he never is though. There was still PLENTY of NFL level talent on that field that day. No one can dispute that. Hell, we had our QB playing RB because everyone else was injured. In the end, excuses are like...well you know. Everybody has one. Prevailing point is we went into their house and beat those boys ragged when the experts said we shouldn't have.

Florida had the talent to beat us even with all the injuries they had. We were decimated as well by injuries.

We are going to get our yards against any defense. We do it against UGA, Bama, Florida etc.....It's the nature of our offense. But the real problem for Florida that game was coaching.

Yes their offense was struggling, but if you watched any Georgia Southern games during that season one of the first things you'll notice was that anyone could throw against us. We had a porous secondary. Yet, Florida kept trying to run the ball all game until it was two late. Yes, I know Morningwhig was no Aaron Murray, but they could have destroyed us throwing the ball.

Morningwheg started the game like 0-3 with what should have been 2 INT's. I think that had a LOT to do with the play calling for most of the rest of the game.

Anyway! I'm excited about Ole Miss. They will be almost as tough as any other SEC team we've faced in the past, but we have 2 years to build some depth, so that may help.

Is it Fall yet?

Saying that 19 starters were out is a misrepresentation; we were out 19 scholarship players. Of those scholarship players, many of them were starters in key spots.

I agree completely coaching had a lot to do with it. This is not hyperbole... UF would have won that game with Ronnie Bell (State's QB) as their starter. Mornhinweg had zero confidence and a shoulder injury. He said after the game that the 46 yard td pass he threw and the last play felt like he ripped his shoulder out. He literally could not throw the ball downfield. Furthermore I've been saying for years that UF has had FCS caliber talent at WR. It's been ridiculous the lack of playmaking ability we have had there under Muschamp.

You are absolutely right that they had the talent and should have won. I already have said multiple times now that southern deserved to win. I didn't "pick apart" the win, I picked apart posts that made ridiculous statements.

No one is making excuses. Simply offering analysis and opinion. The injuries to UFs defense were significant because 1) it included our two best players and 2) those two players were our nose guard and middle linebacker. With those two guys on the field the game would have been very different. The team as a whole was still grossly unprepared (back to coaching) but Virginia Tech's middle linebacker showed this year that a great MLB can tremendously hinder a TO attack.

I'm confused. Did you go to G State or UF?

State. Dad went to UF. Been going to UF games since I was 3. Have been to 119 games. So despite my degree UF we always be "us" to me. Granted I never thought I would care as much about GSU as I do. Now the passion I have for state sports dwarfs how much I care about UF. Does that change where I will be be last saturday of October every year? No. I will be in Jacksonville. Me and my dad are very close and UF games are special for us. I admit it's odd but I make it work.

Georgia Southern to play at Ole Miss in 2016
Perhaps that post sheds some light and you southern boys can appreciate how awful that day was for me. :) Again, hats off to the best win in your history. All this was simply responding to direct statements. I have never felt worse about sports. Never. No team in the world I despise as much as Southern. And for them to come into the swamp... There were no words.

And there you go, folks. Even one of Georgia State's biggest internet fans refers to another team as "us". Just laughable!

Lol. Laugh all you want to. I dont apologize for having the passion and knowledge to sustain fandom for two teams. I'm sorry that's so far beyond comprehension for your feeble mind. Also take offense to the term "Internet fan".

You possess absolutely any extra knowledge over any other person just because you root for two teams? Saying that makes me think you are a total idiot. I do think you possess extra common sense though, because if you only rooted for Georgia State your football season would inhale vigorously.

The only thing worse than a 4 win season, is having 4 wins combined with your two teams.

You must have been drunk most of last fall.
