I guess it's called tact.

I haven't really seen a whole lot of chest thumping. most of our fans are predicting mediocre seasons, with the possibility of surprising some people. We are both proud of our football programs, and we expect to win. It is in our tradition to win.

And in terms of the rivalry thing, nobody else really seems to be coming to the plate with a good rivalry.

Nobody needs to come to plate. We have watched SBC football for years. We know what Louisiana/ULM is. We know how USA and GSU feel about each other.

it is a web forum. people talk about things. and you say everyone here knows about it, but you also have two new schools. this thread was created by a new school member who was asking about the rest of the conference. Not really a hard concept to grasp. I guess your threads about kids transferring to state shouldn't be made since we all follow college athletic sites too.

The problem isn't the asking but rather the "SBC has no rivalries " and "GS and App is the greatest rivalry" conversation that ensued.

Nobody "needs" to come to the plate. True.
I was simply asking about how big/heated or otherwise recognized any rivalries (although I really meant mostly in football, but any will do) - existing rivalries are in the SBC.

Many of us have NOT been watching SBC football for years - therefore - I'd like to know. If read the OP - I clearly stated that I didn't expect any current members to consider what we are bringing with APP the best rivalry.

But Rivalries are generally a thing that takes little prompting to get people talking about. I have been truly surprised at how little we have heard about rivalries between any of the rest on here.

This wasn't meant to be just about App/GaSou. This was supposed to be informative about who you guys have considered your rival - if any existed. I fully expected explanations of "hatred" etc.

The deductive conclusion from the lack of Rivalries between the rest of the posters on this board is that our Rivalry MIGHT be the best and most heated in the SBC.

Now - I'd love to hear about some others.......................

But don't make this out to have been a chest thumping from the SoCon transfers.

I get the potential for the in state stuff:
I see a lot of USA/Troy banter.
It seems that UL hates ULM and vise versa.
GAST is to say the least not beloved by Southern - but isn't a rivalry yet.

Is the Ark State/UL rivalry a hot one? Since they seem to be the top of the Conference. Since my perception is that Troy is traditionally close or even with those two, what about Troy/Ark State or Troy/UL?

I realize that our rivalry with App State is new to the conference - but if I were doing the ranking, I would immediately put it near the top of such a list. But I of course don't expect any of you to consider it that yet.

We will pick our own rivals thank you. Frankly we hate all of you, and hold all of you in total contempt. Losing to any of you only proves we suck in that game. Nuff said about rivals.

I hear you, but then notice that you failed to talk about any really.

Ok - UL(L) hates all of us. I have seen UL fans and ULM fans run off on tangents about several different issues - recruiting, NAME! etc - So I sense some hate there. Rival? That is up to you = Why I asked!

I will tell you that my initial impression is that UL is the most hated team in the SBC. True that "everybody hates a winner" - but it seems to be more than that to me. It is the "I cant believe I'm stuck at the kids table" attitude.

I get that some over zealous Southern fans may have initially put a bad taste about our program in a lot of people's mouths around here - but just get a bad feeling of discontent between UL and most on here. So I guess you are right.. yall hate everybody. Consider the feeling mutual.

Looking forward to building a rivalry with the Cajuns - Hate helps.

Good question.

What are the Sun Belt's Rivalries? What makes them great? How would those that have seen them develop and unfold year in and out describe and perhaps rank them?

Somebody should start a thread about it and ask them.
Just a thought.... 07-coffee3

I wondered the same thing when I pulled it out of my photo locker.
Also thought the bird to the right was some other type of bird, but could that be
a young eagle that the red wolf or fox was going after and the big eagle is trying
to protect?
Concerning rivalries - beginning to think the only true SBC rivalry is the one we have mentioned.

RE: Greatest Conference Rivalries?
My first post was asking about the criteria for rating rivalries. After I looked into it, I found that outside of the UL schools there really aren't any rivalries to speak of. Is simply stating the opinion that App/Southern is the most heated, anticipated, competitive, etc rivalry in the Belt lacking in tact? Or is that just a bunch of old conference rubes lacking the ability to appreciate another schools' glory for a page or two.

Sheesh. I don't see posting an answer to the thread title as half as arrogant as some of you policing people's opinions and expecting the new members to come here with meek, pessimistic opinions about ourselves.

Greatest Conference Rivalries?
Just have to chime in that it's stupid if you consider app and geo south chest thumping especially as far as this thread is concerned... How is it chest thumping about being saviors of the conference when it's all been smack at each other... As well I noticed my friends the other app fans and the geo south fans ignored that UALR and stAte have a good rivalry, but in their defense most of our fan bases care mainly about football. I think some posters including ones I generally like and respect are blowing this up into said chest thumping. App has stated 9/10 we hope for a 4-6 win season, key word HOPE, this profiling of app as arrogant is pretty annoying to me. I don't know what geo south has been saying but I haven't seen really any app poster claiming a conference title next year.

*Do you clean the inside or wash the outside of the planes?
*How long does it take to wash the outside of a 777 and give it a good wax job?

Panama, I’m glad to see that you have a job during these stressful times. No shame in honest work and a man that pays his taxes.01-ncaabbs

RE: Greatest Conference Rivalries?
I’m not saying that the GSU vs. App State’s rivalry is the biggest in the Sun Belt, because we are both new to the conference. I am saying the GSU & App have had a long time antagonistic relationship since 1987 even before GSU entered the SoCon. Since the S.B. picked use both up at the same time the SB acquired two intense rivals right out of the gate which will grow even more intense as time goes on.

PS App goes down this year!!!!!!

GoApps70 getting his tailgating AppSt Express ready for the football season. Wife & him up front – kids and livestock in back. Sadly you will not be allowed into the Statesboro city limits with the livestock. You must check them in at the county fairgrounds just outside of town. You will be allowed one goat to bar-B-Q just outside of campus parking but it must be gutted at the fairgrounds.
