RE: Greatest Conference Rivalries?
I'm really sort of surprised so far.

Starting to think that the Southern/App thing just might be the biggest rivalry in the conference from the get go.

Looks like the stage is set for an epic showdown between the two of us on a Thursday night, on National TV.

The only issue I have with it is that it is just too early in the season for this match up. I sure hope that once we bring in #12 into the East side of this conference, that we can get the dates on this game adjust back to very late season. Would be a shame to have the out come of what might be the biggest rivalry in the conference already decided by the time the season gets going good. Nawww.. we need time to let this one build up. Let the fans work themselves into a frenzy bringing high ranking for 1 or both of us into that game.. let it be known and declared that somebody's dream season is on the line like so many times before. Remember the time we faced each other ranked #1 an #2! This one really should be given time to marinate before it hits the cooker. Hopefully Benson will get it worked out.

I get the potential for the in state stuff:
I see a lot of USA/Troy banter.
It seems that UL hates ULM and vise versa.
GAST is to say the least not beloved by Southern - but isn't a rivalry yet.

Is the Ark State/UL rivalry a hot one? Since they seem to be the top of the Conference. Since my perception is that Troy is traditionally close or even with those two, what about Troy/Ark State or Troy/UL?

I realize that our rivalry with App State is new to the conference - but if I were doing the ranking, I would immediately put it near the top of such a list. But I of course don't expect any of you to consider it that yet.

We will pick our own rivals thank you. Frankly we hate all of you, and hold all of you in total contempt. Losing to any of you only proves we suck in that game. Nuff said about rivals.

Much later and nobody cares about two teams with three victories between the two. Lucky you guys can get a little pub before your first year loses mount. They will be able to relive Michigan, and a bad Florida team.

UNT might have a several year old new stadium but Georgia Southern has a nice new deck.

You SB vets can hate all you want, we really know that you're just jealous that you don't have a for-real, exciting rivalry to be fired up about.

it could be worse. They could have invited a school with no football history at all and no winning records in a D1 schedule, including a winless season in it's first year in the conference...

RE: Greatest Conference Rivalries?
The lack of long standing rivalries points to the constant change in the SBC over the years. It takes years to build a good rivalry like we have GS. It wasnt that long ago that our schools considered Furman/GS and App/Western to be bigger rivalry games. It was always good, but the last 10 years have taken it to a whole new level.

Greatest Conference Rivalries?
I know it's been beaten into our new friends in the SBC that app and geo south are huge rivals but I think it's fair that it is, a rivalry should bring up a lot of smack so it should be an annoyingly poignant situation. Attendance spikes when we meet each other, we constantly have upset each other and not in the flukey way Furman has upset sometimes, we both were perennial powers in FCS in the same conference, I don't know how you guys can't understand it and so get annoyed. I hope all of you develop that team your entire fan base hates and yet respects, true rivalries are a beautiful thing in CFB

This sounds strangely like a few teams I've heard of in C-USA...

RE: Greatest Conference Rivalries?
Georgia State is to Georgia Southern what Western Carolina is to Appalachian State. The rivalry of rivalries in the Sun Belt is App State/GA Sou.
