EMU has two schollies left. That is, If neither Farhat nor Perry were given a scholarship, and Tristan has moved on.

Yeah, it would have been really nice to have had Theron's son out there. And we need the front court help.

He made the right choice for himself. Scholarship money is worth a lot.

agreed. can't fault a kid for choosing free education over being a walk-on.

I'm showing three:

Nobles, Bond the transfer, the JUCO forward and Alvano plus Lee, Talley, Ajayi, Ward and Price.

Again assuming Perry and Farhart do not have scholies. Am I missing something?

Well Wilson may yet transfer someday remember a Div II player can transfer to Div I without sitting out a year I believe.

Still no mention of the 7 foot mystery "transfer" either.

Geez Murphy and staff get in early on Joseph, Dieng and Gill and can't close the deal. Apparently this guy was so impressed with us that he's taking another official visit to Arkansas St this weekend. We did win 22 games last year didn't we? We did play a ton of Div I superstar teams didn't we? And yet what gives?

Nouhoum Bocoum is visiting Arkansas St.

Dear Friends,
According to the Western site, Wilson is now going to Wayne State. Too bad.

Dieng was choosing between WMU (close to home, went to the tourney this year, has been to the tourney a couple other times in the past 15 years) vs us (22 wins, 13 of the past 16 seasons have been trainwrecks, further from home, poor fan support).

if i was him, i would choose WMU. it's going to take more than a 22 win season to turn around the perception of EMU b-ball.

Well Ken, other teams with the exception of CMU are getting better in the MAC West. While I agree we have a solid starting 5, I'm not seeing the depth of the bench we had last year at least experience wise. Losing Combs was a big hit.

I really thought last season would pay out in more dividends recruiting wise. Sorry I'm a bit put off but we're losing out in too many recruiting races to suit me.

Well I'll agree the perception. Murphy doesn't help his own cause much even with his own fans. Creighton is much more transparent and fan friendly. Even Verdi is better at PR than Murphy.

Again, they can't talk about recruits, unless they've faxed their signed LOI's, which is not a requirement to commit to and play for a university. And comparing football recruiting to basketball recruiting is a bit unfair. We all thought English did a great job recruiting, and we knew what was going on every step of the way. It's much easier to obtain info about football recruits than basketball, especially concerning mid majors.

RE: Men's Hoops So Where are we now?
Hey Sam, according to several sites we do have players who signed LOIs-so Murphy can talk about them. Yes I know he may be waiting for the rest of his ships to come in and do it in one big batch. We'll be waiting and waiting and waiting...

Really there's a lot of information on other mid major teams and their recruits ie basketball. Look at the U of D site to see one well done. WMU has one on Rivals that's great. Toledo's board here and NIU.

Sorry English flunked on the PR trail, look at the difference between Creighton and English in term of being fan friendly. And we're getting much more information recruiting wise as it develops than we did with English-we may have had junior days under English but no one outside of the program ever knew it.

Is Clyburn from Romulus still available and/or being recruited by EMU?

Read somewhere that he just received another offer from a small scoll - Notre Dame - Ohio.

He has been playing with REACH 17U AAU Squard and has been playing well.

If he predicts, he would be a nice catch from right down the road in Romulus.

I think you are forgetting Jordan Martin. I assume he has a scholarship since the EMU site specifically refers to Ali and Perry as walk-ons. But does not make that indication for Martin.

Is Martin still on the team or am I wrong about his scholarship?

EMU79, thanks for yet another update. Despite not being good news, it is interesting to be informed.

I am not sure what the restrictions are for the coach to be talking. But there is no media coverage getting and sharing scoops. So the emu coaching staff and athletic department should be sharing what they can when they can. Or they will lose the interest of the limited fans and supporters they do have. I wholly agree with you on this point.

As for Nouhoum not yet deciding- I wish he was coming to EMU. But N. Texas and Arkansas St are decent programs too and so I can see why he is taking his time.

But EMU lost a skinny but long front court player in Wilson since they were holding out scholarships for these non-committal recruits. I don't follow recruiting well enough to know how good Wilson really was. But his dad was awesome- and only an inch taller.

RE: Men's Hoops So Where are we now?
Well on Wilson lets be clear he got scouted by Toledo, WMU, Cleveland St.
and now he's got a full ride on Div II I don't think anyone at the Div I level offered him a full ride including EMU. So it appears the assessment is or was that Wilson was not a Div I level recruit. I thought the staff, his dad and son had worked a deal out but apparently someone had a change of heart.

Verbalcommits indicates Bond signed a LOI.

I have problems understanding why we lose out to schools like Ball St, UT-Martin and now we're in a race with Arkansas St and North Texas for another player. Hm.

I guess I can understand losing Dieng, but we need to win these type of recruiting battles.

I also thought it was interesting that all of Tristan's personal tweets on his verbalcommits page were deleted after the Wayne State news broke.

I think while we understand getting a full ride at Div II versus paying your way for one year at Div I and then being promised a full ride. College costs dollars these days.

We were excited about having a son of highly respected EMU hoops alum playing and now its turned into something much less. Between losing some recruits to less than basketball powerhouse schools and Comb's blast I can honestly say the aftermath of our 22 win season and wins over Toledo and WMU seems bitter to me.

79 well said

It is not easy being an EMU basketball fan

Hard to follow but I agree with you, it appears that we have lost a lot more than we have gained recruiting wise.

Getting in early on a lot of these recruits and then losing them really hurts.

Lets just hope the staff can pull a few rabbits out of the hat in what remains of the recruiting season.

Don't understand the Wilson situation especially since we have a nbr of scollies left and also need big men. ???????? Why wasen't he offerred????

I believe that Ali and Trent Perry will both be on scholarship the upcoming season. This would answer the question of why there seems to be less scholarships available for recruits. Trent was chosen as a captain prior to this past season as a non-scholarship walk-on player. That is unheard of. I think that Murphy values his leadership and character much more than we think and his loyalty to him will be rewarded with a scholarship. Essentially it comes down to this: Do you trust and reward someone who you have seen work and practice all season long under your system against other D-1 athletes or do you take a chance and reward a 18 year old whose abilities and skills have yet to be seen at the next level.

I agree that this does not answer our need at Center but may answer the Tristan Wilson situation.
