First step is getting in and I honestly hope they do. As far as the stadium it needs work but they don't have to go all out. Build some stands on the one side and do some cosmetic work on the other . The designs talked about by their fans will not come close to getting done with the money they are taking about. As far as their budget student fees will be added but from what I read I don't think it will be enough...

that's OK, get in the door and then ask for more.

I think they will have it a little tougher than TXST, GSU, APP, and USA in football but not so much when it comes to basketball.

While the SBC has a few really nice basketball arenas Eastern's is still as good if not better than some especially GST, TXST, ULM and while it's not as large as ASU's it's not any worse on the inside.

I like being back in Kentucky. I have empathy to a once very good program sort of losing its way and looking to recapture what it once had.

But bumping the operating budget nearly 25% is a big challenge.

And $50 a semester will not get it done unless they go cheap cheap cheap and that would be a major mistake. Even then I don't see how it will be enough but like I said Western started low and when back and asked and got more increases. Once you start spending the money ...there's really not much choice but to OK a increase in fees. With Lexington so close it's as easy getting to EKU as it is Western. Fly in and a 30-40 minute bus ride. That area is nothing like TV would have you to believe...they have paved roads :)

Those are very cheap amounts compared to what JMU students pay or some others.
Some students are paying $1100 to $1500 for athletics.
Personally think that is way too high, but $50 a semester is not a lot.

I think they are having to ease into this because they are also adding a $50/semester capital improvements fee.

So for now, based on 2010 numbers, the athletic fee will bring in $145k. It will be interesting to see where the rest comes from.

EKU's undergraduate enrollment is 14,000, and $50 per semester is $100 per year. Multiplying 14,000 x $100 yields $1.4 million per year.

Throw in the additional $1 million per year in CFP money that comes with being in a G5 conference, and the additional $400,000 or so that can be earned from playing an annual one-and-done away game against a P5 school as an FBS rather than FCS opponent, and EKU's annual athletic revenue would be over 20% higher than the current level. That's before any revenue gain from increased football ticket sales or booster donations.

I wouldn't count on the conference passing that $1 million per team CFP money straight through to the schools.

More likely part of it gets diverted to improve regional TV, to help fund the bowls and increase subsidies for the conference tournaments.

And when comparing to budgets and revenues of existing schools, it should be factored out, since whatever portion of it that gets passed along will be added to both sides of the comparison in equal measure.

Yes, but that includes all campuses. The fee will only be applicable to those that are taking more than 5 hours each semester at the Richmond campus.

Their location is the only positive for me and I am one of the people in favor of moving to 12 for football as soon as we can. It just looks like time stood still 20 years ago for their athletic infrastructure. I don't mean to offend any EKU supporters but is their a plan and are their resources to upgrade quickly?

Also, I am of the opinon that market size is irrelevant when it comes to FBS success but can a program in 32K Richmond support a 4th Kentucky based football program? Louisville is doing well and WKU has had some success so maybe there just isn't a recruiting base to succeed in the SEC.

Maybe they can support a 4th KY football program. Troy, AL has a population of 18,033 and is located in the middle of the boondocks. They do pretty darn well. So, Richmond, you say has 32,000 and IMO, they could probably do as well.

Come on man that ain't even fair. Troy is surrounded by great talent in Florida, Georgia, and in state Alabama. Not to mention not too far South Carolina, Mississippi, and NOLA.

We currently get much of our recruiting classes from Ky, Tenn, GA and FL with some cross country transfers from JUCOs.

Just saying that Troy is surrounded while you have to get to the premium areas. Kentucky is not a great recruiting state for football, and neither is Tennessee.

Louisville is real good, Lexington is okay, Atlanta is 5 hours away so not too bad. Cincy is 2 hours away. So its not the best, but its not all that bad either. There is a pretty good FL pipeline.

Nothing other than his interview. He sure laid it out in the interview though. Unless that was an old interview and he has changed his mind you can see where his feelings are. Seldom does FBS get done if the school's president doesn't even seem to back going to FBS.

Yea, Missouri State is off the table until he announces differently.

Brohm from WKU has a good pipeline set up from Louisville to Bowling Green...WKU has several Louisville area players...

If it's not in any EKU newsletter or bulletin board you should give their athletic office a call and ask them. Cannot hurt, nothing to lose.

I think it's safe to say this hasn't happen...yet

If it had the BOR meeting would have addressed it with a yes or no vote and I didn't get that from what was posted on the other topic on here about EKU I think it's safe to say..not yet.

Calls from the EKU AD and President to the SBC ...bet the farm on that but I think this will play out with a invite if EKU gets in the SBC. Other than EKU applying for membership.

That article posted on the other thread was from two months ago. Even before the BOR went to Frankfort for a full weekend.
