MoSt. + Belmont (Oly) and that's a complete conference. Belmont could travel with App in Oly sports and it'd get another member for Soccer that was just reinstated.

I agree. They have to deal with State politics of Missouri as well. So they won't reveal to much at this juncture.

The current best options for SBC invites:

Missouri State - 80 %
Kennesaw State - 10 %
Coastal Carolina - 5 %
Lamar - 5%

Good grief... Lamar? Coastal Carolina? Kennesaw freakin State???

Just no. We don't need to expand if those are our "best options". Last year the Belt set the bar at App State and Ga Southern. We only need to add programs that are at that level or better.

Finding another FCS opponent that is the same caliber as AppSt and GaSo, that isn't named JMU, in the conference footprint will be tough.

JaxSt. - Nope. Troy/USA won't let it happen.
McNeese - Nope. ULM/ULL won't let it happen.
SHSU - Nope. Their coach left to GaSo, don't see him leaving if he felt they were upward bound.

EKU and Liberty seem to be the only institutions that are chomping at the bit to join the Belt. I like that attitude.

I think MoSt. is in. But like the GaSo/App move, we'll hear about it when the Belt has it's second team finalized.

I hope it's EKU.

Why not stay at 11? Why the need for 12? Keep what you have and develop the brand.

Well - there aren't many programs at the level of App and Southern.
I'd take Montana, UD, and maybe a couple of others.

But Lamar WHO? Do they even play football?

Kennesaw? Are you kidding me? Get REAL.

Coastal has some potential - but they are not ready. I like that they are a public program brining a new State/Market. SC would be good for the footprint. If the SoCon weren't going private - they would be a nice addition for them right now.

UTC is a better option imop.

I like EKU.

I agree. I hate to be the condescending new team, but I'm not interested in us adding anyone not up to par with App and us. At least Georgia State is in Atlanta and has potential.

Kennessaw, maybe, in about 10 years if the team is successful and has tons of support. But that would mean GaSt is gone, so, I dunno.

Like Idaho, Umass will be a temporary deal. It's a convenient arrangement for them and the SB. They get time to build their football program up for the AAC and some other schools get time to prepare for the SunBelt.

I find this post to be very informative.

New Mexico State, Liberty and Missouri State as full members
with UMass as football only if Idaho stays as football only

football only membership is shaky, and thus should not be depended upon to maintain a championship game.

Why go to 14? Just cuts back on money the teams would get. Only need to add one. Only add UMass if its 100% known MSU is joining soon and then kick Idaho or UMass out. Otherwise add Liberty and get it over with.

The difference between dividing by 12 and dividing by 14 isn't that much at this point.

It depends on what other benefits the 14 might bring in determining if it is worth it or not.

If you could put Liberty's facilities at Coastal Carolina, we would be talking about a no brainer move to the Sun Belt. But as of right now, they would be a program to keep an out of for.

Coastal is in a decent place to grow. Their coach is a bazillionaire and big sponsor of the Athletic Dept. Furman, Wofford and CoCharleston have stopped them from getting into the SoCon for years. Maybe they need to think bigger than the SoCon.

RE: Still sounds like Sun Belt is determined to go to 12 FB teams
One of our athletic department administrators was asked today if the Sun Belt was still trying to go to 12 in view of the possible NCAA ruling that conference might be able to hold championship games with less than 12 teams. He said the goal remained for the Sun Belt to get a 12th all sports member before June 1.

What does that mean--- who knows?

That some people are not giving up their hopes for Liberty.

The Belt should add UMASS with a mutual agreement that the two parties can part ways in two years if they choose. They are the best football program available. The travel is less than ideal, but that is why they would be football only, and hopefully a short term, temporary add.

RE: Still sounds like Sun Belt is determined to go to 12 FB teams
I have been a strong supporter of the SBC waiting for EKU, as I think it is a great long term choice,

However, the immediate advantages of Liberty should not be ignored.
-Liberty has a large and fanatical fan base. It showed very well at ODU last year from both numbers and behavior standpoints
-Liberty has a $1 billion endowment, which means that it is not likely to falter financially with the transition.
-Liberty has new FBS ready and expandable football facilities.
and maybe most importantly,
-Liberty has a television network. Didn't the SBC just lose a regional carrier?

I don't care for politics and/or religion being part of athletics, but, at least for the one experience I had with them at ODU; they seemed to have left all that at home.

Benson said a few weeks ago that Coastal Carolina was no longer being considered by the SBC.
