Rice @ Lamar (Tuesday Baseball)
JP reporting that rare game where wind is blowing out in Beaumont.

Rice lineup: Cook RF, Hoelscher 3B, Ewing C, Aquino LF, Kopycinski DH, Taylor 2B, CTeykl 1B, Stainback SS, Warren CF, McDowell P. at 6:30 pm
Interesting that we're going with 4 left-handed hitters in the lineup against a southpaw starter. I also don't understand why we keep switching Teykl between 1B and 2B; especially since Taylor has played a very solid defensive 1B on several occassions this year.

Really only 3 Cook, Warren and Tekyl. We will always have 2 since Cook is going to start and both of our CFs are lefthanded hitters. Conner seems to be an equal opportunity slap hitter. Taylor is a more natural looking 2B than Conner, so if we get his bat in why not put him in his natural defensive position. Just thoughts Walt.

You're right we'll always have two left-handed hitters, and one can't argue with The OG's decision to rest the injured Reeves in a mid-week game. Clearly, the coaching staff has much more confidence in Skyler behind the plate than Hunter (and Wayne said as much to several of us last week-- not only him, but the consensus of all the coaches).

Play ball! Soft-tossing lefty-- right-handed batters need to go the opposite field against this guy.
Cook hit by the pitch on 1-2 count. Leadoff baserunner.
Hoelscher flied out to CF.
Ewing flied out to warning track (wind kept taking it back). Runner on 1B, two outs.
Aquino strikes out-- really bad AB.
Once again, the soft-tossing lefty makes us look foolish.
Scoreless heading to the bottom of the first inning.

UAB cancelled its game tonight against Alabama State due to a wet field (I'll assume the rain we got yesterday came down last night and this morning in Birmingham?). They're still going to play their game tomorrow against Alabama.

It's those "missing elderly" that always worryme. Did I forget to call Ann?
On to baseball -- per JP Taylor turned an unconventional DP - tag the runner throw to 1st. So much for my "natural position" comment -- but if it worked it is good for me.

Chase gives up a couple hits, but escapes with an inning-ending 4-4-3 double play by Taylor.
Kopycinscki ground out to SS. Stop trying to pull this guy!
Taylor first pitch double into the gap! Runner on 2B, one out.
Teykl struck out looking. For heavens sakes, guys-- this guy has 9 Ks in 13 innings against weak competition.
Stainback ground out to SS.
Really poor ABs so far by Rice against a pitcher that only Rice batters can't seem to figure out.
Scoreless heading to the bottom of the second inning.
