Any idea when this would be passed? Is there a meeting in a few weeks to approve this? Perhaps with this news of no push back that Mr. Benson may put an expansion on hold for now. That would mean that Idaho will be let go after 2 years, NMSU is a full member and with an 8 game conference schedule, you'll still have a CCG with 10 teams like the Big 12-2.

Benson stated on Saturday that they will go to 12 before June 1. I know many of you would rather stand pat than add a certain unmentionable school however you will go to 12 in some way.

I don't think its smart for any conference that should expand to not because of the possible deregulation of the CCG. What is smart is moving forward with things using the current rules and regulations. This way you don't end up screwing yourself later if deregulation never happens.

Benson states a BUNCH of things.

He stated the Montanas were coming to the WAC.
He stated all kinds of schools were coming to the WAC.
He stated the WAC was fine.

We KNOW our president has been talking to other schools. If he said otherwise he would have been flat out lying.

I'm a youngster (from NY) and I still had to google this. I don't think I realized that they passed up on Warren Sapp AND Dan Marino for a bunch of people that never produced. Haha stupid Jets.

Maybe we can get the Montanas in the Belt. It would be a very nice football addition to the conference.

Wow, MoSt. is definitely off the table. President states
Quote:Basketball in Belt is worse, travel is more expensive, no known rivals and it would take a tremendous amount of convincing to move. We shouldn't take 4-5 steps backward today in the hopes that we can take a step up 15-20 years from now (speaking of a conference higher than sunbelt)

Would be great to have Montana and Montana State in the Sun Belt.
Doubt the Gulf Coast schools would be too enthusiastic though.
They could be each other's travel partners and Idaho isn't too far away.

"It would take an enormous amount of convincing for me to accept the Sun Belt"

"It would be 1-2 million more"

"It's fun for our fans to think about"

"It's a great thing for people to talk about and argue about"

Cliff- it was fun because we thought it was real. Knowing it's not real, it's no longer 'fun'

"We shouldn't make a short term mistake in the hopes of 10-15 years making a step up."

"The Valley is a great league for us"

These three quotes literally make me feel sick to my freaking stomach:

"we need to make progress so that we are competitive every year with Wichita"

"somebody has to step up and be a competitor with Wichita"

"there isn't any reason that we can't be the competitor to Wichita in this league"

Heck yeah and we might as well throw in NDSU too. We can create a Sun Belt Western Division and move NMSU and TX State in there as well. It'd be nice for football and basketball at least.

Good thing to think about but we would just be creating another FBS conference. Seriously would like to have them, but not practical.

Yeah, I listened to it also. He minced few words in basically saying Missouri State was not going anywhere unless Wichita State left the conference at the very least.

RE: Breaking: MO State President-'no contact with sun belt'
The Shockers undefeated run this year was certainly ill-timed for Sun Belt expansion. The MVC probably has a bunch of NCAA units on the table, with a promise of more to come; hard to walk away from that. The Missouri State Pres. said himself 'we are concentrating on basketball' and 'someone has to compete with Wichita St.'. Clearly that hoops money is in the front of his mind.

Why is this happening now, all at once? Because Benson needs an answer so he can plan for June 1, that's why.

If he really wants 12, UMass and Liberty appear to now be the only options; with Liberty being years away from eligiblity.

LOL. UMass, come on down.

It was a standard PC/PR radio interview. Nothing more or nothing less to take out of it. We were never moving this year, next year would be the earliest time frame anyway.

LU is eligible to start the FBS transition now. Most FCS teams are eligible. I think you meant to say something along the lines that LU is years away from a full FBS transition.

I know, it's all tongue in cheek, but hey the Belt does have Idaho!
