30,000 buying plane tickets? That's a lot of money for a lot of people. And remember those tickets are gonna be somewhat expensive.

You'll find that a lot of people will simply look at the difference between driving to New Orleans and staying with friends (or just coming back the same day) and spending 1500 bucks a couple to buy 2 plane tickets, rent a car, and get a hotel for 2-3 days and not go to Orlando.

Driving games, especially ones where you don't need a hotel room are going to be much better attended. And therefore more desirable for the school.

NOLA has a ton of alumni that will take the flight. It's also a twofer with Disney and Universal. Folks from Acadian will make the trip either driving or by flight. They laughed at 48,000 for the NOLA Bowl. I stand by my 30,000 plus it could be more.

Okay, you win. ULL, which doesn't have 30,000 season ticket holders, has 30,000 people ready to spend more money to attend one game than it costs to attend every ULL home game in Lafayette. Why? Because you say so.

If that's the case, ULL should start playing a home game a year in Orlando, because that would really help them sell more tickets to their games.

Actually, I think ULL playing one home game a year in New Orleans might be a good idea (if the Superdome can even host regular season games as a host site of the playoffs). But Orlando? Nope.

I live 2 hours and 15 minutes from the Superdome. I spent 2 nights in New Orleans for each of the last 3 bowls. Very few Cajun fans just drove in for the game and left after.

That being said, I think 15-20.k is a more plausible number for the Cjuns in Orlando.

That would be a huge traveling contingent. My guess is that 10,000 fans for you guys traveling would look good for your school. And yes, I know you guys have good fan support. 20k would be a huge number. If ULL's fans are willing to spend that much coin on a bowl game, then y'all need to raise your ticket prices for your season ticket holders.

ULL would be lucky to have 15-20k there

Georgia Southern is the closest school to Orlando and I doubt even they would have 30k there.

You are correct. CUSA has one thing over the SBC now with regards to bowls. And that is a bowl tie in with a P5 opponent. But most years that bowl tie in will not be a team from the P5 with a winning record.

CUSA still has more TV exposure/money (although I think that will start to even out)

CUSA has better basketball (although the gap is narrowing).

The gap is narrowing?

The Sun Belt loses WKU and replaces them with a pair of sub-300 teams and that narrows the gap?

The Sun Belt as a conference next year will be SWAC bad.

The gap is narrower than it ever has been.

And next year it will get bigger.

The avg. RPI of CUSA teams this year was 175, avg. RPI of SBC was 200.

Change those numbers to account for the changes to the conference lineups in 2014-15 and the average goes to 172 for C-USA, 228 for SBC.

SBC hoops is gonna be brutal.

Football is gonna be fine with ASU and UL and Troy should rebound and USA is solid this year, but you're eventually gonna have to pay the piper with Idaho, NMSU and the transitionals.

Last year the SBC was solid because you only had one bad team at the bottom, this year, you're going to have at least three.

I know this thread is about the bowl, but C-USA basketball and SBC basketball are one-bid conferences most years.

That said, gone are the days of Memphis boosting everyone's RPI. WKU will help, but it won't be enough to float that conference above a bid.

Yes, Georgia Southern and App will not boost anything, but neither can you expect Texas State, led by Danny Kaspar (the guy who built SFA's 30+ win year) to stay that low. UTA had only their second losing season since 2007-08 (And the Mavs were still a team that many in the conference respected). They don't typically stay down for long under Scott Cross. ULM is just out of APR sanctions and should get better. I don't expect USA to stay down for long. Georgia State is on a roll and seem to be a transfer magnet lately. UL-L, UALR and stAte are traditionally stable. Troy is recruiting to a new arena, so the theory is they will get better. I don't imagine C-USA will have that many teams who will improve next year.

Am I saying SBC is better than C-USA? No, but at the same time, the gap is pretty small, especially compared to where many in C-USA think it is.

He's exaggerating. But I suspect that the first time the Cajuns travel outside of their backyard they will have impressive numbers as long as it is a reasonable destination. It will almost be like a "first bowl" boost for them finally getting to go someplace new.

There are obviously a lot of Cajun fans who don't buy season tickets that will indeed go to a bowl party.

The Orlando Sports Foundation, which originally pitched the Cure Bowl as a game that could be played at UCF’s Bright House Networks Stadium and would benefit breast cancer-related charities, will manage the new bowl. It will not be affiliated with the Florida Citrus Sports, which oversees Orlando’s Capital One Bowl and Russell Athletic Bowl.

The game is expected to match teams from the American Athletic Conference, UCF’s current league, and the Sun Belt. It will be played before the Russell Athletic Bowl in December and would not conflict with any potential College Football Playoff or national championship games Orlando hopes to host in the future.

This is good news and a good add for the conference, not to mention a very doable trip from NC if App is selected for the bowl.

So level of play is up, bowl tie ins are up, now to fix the TV deal and most of the complaints about the conference should be over.

A Cajun fan is saying 30k will make the trip? I hope his squad gives him a chance to prove him right.

I'd love it if a Sun Belt team sent 30k to an "away" bowl game. Hell, I'm happy that a Sun Belt team was the main reason for a 48k bowl attendance.

I do want the Cajuns out of the NOLA bowl though... that's purely for selfish reasons (I want us in that spot).

I think this year

Troy goes to camellia bowl

USA goes to godaddy

ULL to New Orleans

And our conference will have some of the highest attended bowls.

Who ever gets to play in the cure bowl will have a great time. Orlando is spending 200 million to renovate the stadium, so it will basically be brand new. And mass transit starts in 2 weeks.

Just some house cleaning from previous posts. ESPN is the tv for the bowl. Bahamas bowl looks to be in trouble due to passport issues Since it will be an issue getting them for everyone in just 2 or 3 weeks.

That would mean you have us losing at least 3-4 league games. I guess its possible depending on our QB situation, but I don't see it looking at our schedule.

But it's just my opinion. I've been wrong before.
