This is South Louisiana and not Jonesboro. It's a great place to live and the University of Louisiana is only getting bigger and better in all sports. I think Hud wants to build a legacy and not just another temporary paycheck. Mississippi State must be one of the worst jobs in football.

The first time a 1.5 million dollar check is offered he's gone. There's tons of good places to live and no matter where he coaches he's 3 average to below average seasons away from being out of a job. That can happen just as easily at UL-L as the bottom feeder BCS school. So I think he takes the money when it's first offered and along with that comes the chance at a huge pay day if he wins.
His salary will come close to a million if not more and the incentives I am sure would almost kick him up there!!!

He was offered $1.2 million by Tulane and turned it down before they hired Johnson. That is not going to move him out of Lafayette, based upon his new package plus home in River Ranch. I could see $2-$2.5 million and it won't be a program not located in the south. His parents and two children still live in Mississippi.

South Louisiana is great place to live. Hud wouldn't sign it if he didn't want to stay. MS State might be the worst job in the SEC. I don't see him going there.

Just about every coach in college football is looking or maybe I sure say hoping for that "next head coaching job" It doesn't matter if S. Miss is the worse job in the SEC. At least you have a shot at a nation championship and no coach is going to get that from any of our schools. So I don't buy the "Hud wouldn't sign it if he didn't want to stay". Sure he wants to stay and he will be happy there as long as UL-L is winning. But that wanting to stay will end when a better job opens and is offered....

even if it's at the worse program in the SEC because that job is still perceived as being better than at any of our schools. Tulane or one of the other bottom schools in the AAC might not be enough because at this point that doesn't get a coach much if any closer to winning a national championship. But any spot in the SEC does.

I will assume you meant Miss State and not Southern Miss. Yes he will leave for a better job like anyone else. Miss State is just a notch above Vandy. If a Georgia or Florida came calling he will go. At leas we are not coaching pit stop like ASU.

Coaches might be looking for the next job, but some coaches are smart enough to understand that jumping ship to a bottom BCS program only improves their chances of winning a national championship slightly. When was the last time Indiana, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State or NC State won a national championship? Don’t bother to look, because they haven’t won one in your lifetime. None of them have the type of resources that top programs like Alabama, LSU, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Ohio State or a Michigan have to consistently compete for a national championship.

So he takes the Mississippi State job and wins 7 or 8 games a year until the fans grow tired of it like Mullen, what does he gain? No nationally ranked program is knocking down the doors in Starkville trying to hire Mullen. He is stuck in a dead end job until he has that special season. So Hudspeth can take the job at Miss. State when Mullen is gone for the money, or he can ride it out at UL building his resume for an opportunity at a top BCS program with the resources to compete for a national championship.

Without any past connection to a powerhouse program and I'm talking any team that was top 20 more times than not over the last 20 years...

You're not likely to get there from the SBC especially someone that's not considered a young up and comer. Yes I know that sounds stupid who doesn't want experience but I think for the programs we are talking about it's just not a sexy enough hire to get there without a stop in between.

None of us really knows what's in his mind he could be the one guy that's totally content with being where he's at. But I think we all can agree that is not very common in FBS football. Also everyone believes they are better than the last coach so do coaches really think about not being able to get the job done? All it would take is one big year or two good seasons to get the big pay check at a SEC school. But liker I said your coach could be the 1 in 100 that is content.
