Not just the size, but they're Division III in all other sports. They may be a Goliath in the hockey world, but in many ways, they're still the little guy.

D1 in ice hockey and DIII in all other sports.

Even though I grew up in New York and have nieces and nephews who go to colleges nearby, I have to admit I haven't heard of the school before yesterday I don't believe.

They have an interesting history (and nickname in the Dutchmen). President Chester Arthur and William Steward are among their most famous alums. And maybe their most interesting claim to fame is the fact that they can boast of the longest serving president in U.S. college history in Eliphalet Nott. He was president there for 62 years (!) in the first half (plus) of the 19th century (living to the age of 92). The school's most famous landmark is his memorial building in the center of the campus.

This Wikipedia list of longest living college presidents is interesting. I'm surprised in a way that there aren't longer spans for more schools, although I do see there is a current president of the New England Institute of Technology who has been president there for 43 years and he's just 67 so he has a chance to go after Nott's record.

He does! I've added him to the list. From his inauguration (Oct. 12, 1912) to his resignation (March 1, 1946), Dr. Lovett was president of Rice for a little less than 33 and a half years.

You know, if they would only start the hockey season a little later so we didn't have to spend all our time traveling north, maybe Rice could win a hockey championship.
