A new locker room would be a fairly minor addition. They could be easily replaced while renovating or building a new arena.

A new football locker room can easily be replaced? JSU has an uphill climb even if the two alabama teams in the SBC were for them. After all the complaining I heard about Statesboro not having anything to offer, I would be surprised if anyone would be thrilled about getting to spend a day in Jacksonville Alabama.

Not trying to say we were getting the invite. Just saying according to the criteria listed were in the list. If jmu says no, that leaves liberty whom most on this forum despise and swear they are not getting an invite.
if you believe Jsu isnt ready Eku is years behind in preparations for a move up.
so that puts us in the list.
utc has already said no for now.

My guess is liberty.

Jacksonville State has such an unfortunate location for the Sun Belt. If they were in Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina, or maybe even Texas, they would probably be invited to the Sun Belt.

We will see but if the presidents do what Benson wants done then some eastern team is going to voted in by June 1. The choices are: JMU, Liberty, Jacksonville St. or Eastern Kentucky.

Of these 4 two have definitely said they would accept an invite : Liberty and Eastern Kentucky. Jacksonville St. has given indications that they would also. JMU-- who the hell knows what they will do.

About as much to do in the Jville area as most other college towns.

Jsu has went as far as to be involved with the whole wac east thing. Pretty good indication they would accept an invite. The stated reason for the facility upgrades is in preparations for an invite.

If the Sun Belt is determined to have a 12th football team from the East I don't see why not do it this year. If JMU is not going to come (and at this point I don't think they are), the choices are Liberty, Eastern Kentucky or Jacksonville St. Those are still going to be the choices next year, so I would think the conference would go ahead and invite someone and get it done. That way next year (2015) we will have 12 and a championship game.

The choices in the East are probably not going to change. Might as well go ahead and get it done.

I've been to a lot of college towns in a lot of states, and JSU doesn't exactly have much. It's not the universities fault though, the town just doesn't have much to offer. Gadsden and Oxford have stuff to offer, but that's a good half hour to either one.

Yep that 27 min. drive is a killer--just like that 54 min. drive to Savannah.

There is a new 4 lane parkway through fort mcclellan the drive to oxford will be an easy 10 min. drive now. Also Oxford has and is growing substantially in the last 5 years so if youve not been lately there's alot more now.

Oxford is 15 miles and Gadsden is 20 miles. The largest city in the County, Anniston, is 10 miles. And these measure would be close to city center to city center not city limits to city limits.
I travel to Auburn often and the city offers basically the same things as Jacksonville. Auburn does have a bowling alley if anyone stills bowls?

we have the stadium, have upgraded our softball field, and are currently involved in upgrading our baseball and tennis facilities. Our arena is waiting on the word of a move, there is some talk of renovating the Pete and some talk of building a new arena.

ZERO chance Jacksonville State gets in.

My understanding is that he was working on a plan to poach some MWC schools and a WAC school went around the commish, told some other schools the plan and they got in the MWC and the WAC was left hoding the bag. If you are referencing expanding to 16, that was in the '90's and near irrelevant to his performance today.

tbh, if that truly was the plan, it was a pretty dumb ass idea. There's a hierarchy. The conference with flagship U's, BCS busters and higher athletic budgets will always trump the other. Just the fact that MWC basketball was better than the WAC at the time made this a foolish plan.

People in the Boro don't have to drive to savannah for entertainment or decent food, it's already there.

Liberty's chance might be fading away, despite its full court press to get in.
