A new football locker room can easily be replaced? JSU has an uphill climb even if the two alabama teams in the SBC were for them. After all the complaining I heard about Statesboro not having anything to offer, I would be surprised if anyone would be thrilled about getting to spend a day in Jacksonville Alabama.

Congratulations on your proof of never being in Jacksonville for game day! It's actually a very quaint town that has great food and decent bands that come through... Game day is quite fun...

We're way ahead of EKU in the moving up business. We lack renovating our arena, which im sure would be done immediately upon an invite.
we have the stadium, have upgraded our softball field, and are currently involved in upgrading our baseball and tennis facilities. Our arena is waiting on the word of a move, there is some talk of renovating the Pete and some talk of building a new arena.

ZERO chance Jacksonville State gets in.

I must have missed it but why isn't Jax St. higher on the list? Why don't S AL and Troy want them?

Troy and USA don't want JSU because they believe 5 FBS schools in Alabama is enough, basically. The reasons really come down to recruiting territories and prospects, TV time and money, and politics... I don't think I've seen anyone comment about snubbing JSU because they hate us. For most that don't want us in it's just a numbers thing, IMHO... We at JSU believe those are the reasons, but the state of Alabama can handle 6 FBS teams with no problem. I've also seen others on here comment that we need to upgrade facilities (baseball and basketball) which is true...

There is certainly enough talent there to go around. I personally like it as they are obviously smack dap in the middle of the footprint. Top 10 FCS attendance. Descent history in football.

Plus, JSU is in North Alabama where most resident live. JSU is also in the number 1 college football TV market in the country, Birmingham. B'ham viewers are mostly UAT and Auburn fans but lots of gambling on college football, too. At worst JSU would be 4 in the market but probably 3rd as UAB has a tough time attracting fans.

I've been to a lot of college towns in a lot of states, and JSU doesn't exactly have much. It's not the universities fault though, the town just doesn't have much to offer. Gadsden and Oxford have stuff to offer, but that's a good half hour to either one.

Oxford is 15 miles and Gadsden is 20 miles. The largest city in the County, Anniston, is 10 miles. And these measure would be close to city center to city center not city limits to city limits.
I travel to Auburn often and the city offers basically the same things as Jacksonville. Auburn does have a bowling alley if anyone stills bowls?

ValleyBoy thinks you need to change your statement. Oxford/Anniston offers basically the same thing as Auburn. No one goes to Jacksonville except for JaxSt.

Your missing out on some good food and music, then.

ValleyBoy has been to Jacksonville for some good music. But then again it was good because Valleyboy Jr was playing some of the music at the HS honor band that we attended at JaxSt 4 different times over the past several years. As far as good food we always stop on the way back home at Top of the River in Anniston.

Not trying to say we were getting the invite. Just saying according to the criteria listed were in the list. If jmu says no, that leaves liberty whom most on this forum despise and swear they are not getting an invite.
if you believe Jsu isnt ready Eku is years behind in preparations for a move up.
so that puts us in the list.
utc has already said no

Because JSU has done ONE thing.... Redone the stadium, that makes you years ahead of EKU? You are not years ahead of EKU you have a remodeled stadium, that's it. Really, what someone writes on a message board does not make it true and probably has little if any influence on who is chosen. Get the facts straight, JSU has redone their stadium, EKU has not, that's it. You beat EKU in no other areas, none. Football and Wins vs Loses. Playoff appearances. FCS championships and games, OVC championships, Basketball facilities, OVC basketball wins, location of university. We may not be the SB choice, but JSU certainly is not years ahead of EKU.

If only UTC were willing, and their attendance were up to par, all this would be irrelevant !

Wouldn't you guys need to get your FB attendance up? I'm not sure what it was, nor do I have time to go look it up, but I was wondering about that. Your basketball team surely draws a crowd.

My guess is liberty.

I have no idea if they will get in. But this is a good example of somebody reading the post of a VERY vocal minority of a conference's fans and drawing a conclusion that imhop - is far fetched. Given the footprint of the Sun Belt (Bible Belt) - I'd figure that most of the fans of this conference (even on this forum), do not despise Liberty. I think more people would object to Liberty's invite based on the lack of performance from their football program and perceived possible advantages from being a private school - than from their religious opinions. That doesn't mean that they despise LU, but might simply have other practical reasons for not wanting their sports programs in this Athletic conference. I only see a few "despising" LU, even on this board. Those same ones just say it over, and over and over. Like in most situations, many people avoid getting involved in the discussion and remain politically correct/neutral by not saying how they really feel about something. Again, based on our conference footprint, I'd guess that the majority of this conference's fans agree with most of what Liberty stands for rather than despise them.

The last thing Troy, USA (and UAB) need is another FCS team from Alabama moving up to FBS. We're already spread thin with five FBS teams in a state with less than 4 million people. For this reason, JSU will never be in the SBC, and most likely never be in CUSA.

Location is really killing them. Even though they play decent football, have good attendance etc. They bring no new market. Being in the footprint is great, it would just be "too many toes on the same foot".

Agreed, that if they were in FL, or TN or Kentucky or South Carolina - they would have already been invited. I'm not sure what else they can do to help their cause for SBC membership. Maybe win several National FCS titles, and build all those other facilities up. But the later is a catch 22 that we are know all too well. Good luck JSU.

Maybe you just think too highly of where your team is in the world of division 1 football. The stadium is nice, band is great, and the town is very modest, which are all good things. On the other hand, the student body doesn't care much about JSU athletics and nearly every facility besides football is way behind. Add all that to the fact that our state of 4 million people has 5 FBS teams, and you have a program like JSU not getting in.

Seems like a real winning football team is what we need to add to help us in the comparison
ratings to up our take in the football derby, and aid in our next media contract.

I don't have to drink the kool-aid from Troy. I live in the state, I see it every day. If there is any state that has more issues with their alumni rooting for the big boy program than Georgia, its the great state of Alabama. JSU does not have the support, or they would be in the belt by now. I have seen the campus, the facilities, the lack of support, and everything else that needs to be seen to not want JSU in the SBC. One of my friends worked for the athletic department at JSU, graduated from JSU, and loves JSU, but he explained the same thing to me, so its not just the Troy fans and myself that share this opinion.

Fan Support? Compared to UAT and Auburn, No. Compared to teams in or considering by SB, yes.
JSU 15,814
SB avg is around 17,800
2,000 differences with a FCS schedule

Rumored candidates:
AL State 14,387
JMU 21,011
MO ST 8,700
UTC 9,922
Lamar 8,379
Sam Houston 7,040
Towson 8,473
UMASS 15,830
Liberty 15,031
JMU the highest and JSU couldnt beat them for the bid anyway. The only other one higher is UMASS with a FBS schedule.

Other close comparable FBS schools:
UAB 10,548
Middle 18,715
WKU 18,334

About the same as SB members

New member:
App St 24,894
GA So 14,828

JSU is inline with GA SO and behind App St to no one surprise but so is everyone in the SB minus ULL.

I understand you dont care for JSU and so be it, but the numbers just dont back you up.

Facilities improvements are needed at JSU which no one denies but why didnt GASO do their improvements before a bid was offered? Most schools do not have the luxury of making these investments without the promise of a FBS future. The leadership at GASO was smart not to make a FBS investment until the FBS funds would be available.

JSUs biggest obstacle is already having two Alabama members in the SB. The good part for JSU is the population base is in the Northern part of the state which the SB has almost zero coverage with Troy and USA.

Troy, USA, and UAB are tough obstacles. That's why I don't see a CUSA future for JSU either. That limits your options considerably. Though USA got in with Troy, it's pushing for that 6th FBS team in the state that could be more of a roadblock for JSU.

We don't get coverage up there just like UAB and JSU get no coverage in the southern part of the state. The only teams that get statewide coverage are Alabama and Auburn.
