RE: Rice@Tulane (Saturday Game 2)
Finally! Reeves singles to open up the eighth and leaves for a pinch runner.
I'm sure a bunt is coming. But no! Stainback grounds? out moving the runner? to second. Decoding JP is demanding work. To third goes Williamson (it's Williamson) on a wild pitch. Warren fouls a safety squeeze for strike three. (Ugh. Don't like that play with two strikes.)

Hoelscher hits into an error on the pitcher giving the Owls a lucky 2-1 lead.

Cook flies to left and we go to the bottom of the eighth 2-1 Rice.

Buy J Willy's CD. He just scored on a Tulane error.

Just playing Rice puts pressure on Tulane. Add the pressure of the acting coach playing for the real gig next year and there is a lot of pressure in Terchin.

Fox returns for the eighth. I don't know the pitch count but I'm voting he finish this game by himself.

Woohoo. A 1-2-3 eighth for Fox. To the ninth we go clinging to a 2-1 lead.

Ewing reaches on another Wave error.

McDowell grounds into a force at second. He takes second on a passed ball. He moves to third as Teykl is out 1-3.

Aquino k's to end the inning.

Time to flash some glove...

Mapes comes out to start the ninth. This has been a very well pitched game.

Ewing leads off with a grounder to third which Hope mails the wrong side of the first baseman for an error. McDowell shows bunt then grounds into a force at second of Ewing, beating another bad throw to first. One down, a runner on first, bringing up Teykl.

Connor goes to 3-1 and a passed ball moves McDowell to second. McDowell goes to third on a grounder by Teykl. Aquino, with two outs.
, strikes out.

So we go to the bottom of the ninth ahead 2-1 with Fox on the mound and Ditman, presumably, on tap.

So, if you are grilling Red Snapper, is there anything special that one should do?

Carthon starts it off for the Green Wave. A cold-blooded K for out number one. Deschamp singles. A pinch runner takes over. Well, we've been here before. Here comes Ditman. Now if we can just field the ball.

After a K and a single (and pinch runner), Ditman replaces Fox.

I want to see only Ks or a DP.

Go Owls!!

Yet another stellar performance from Fox. Guy is as reliable as they come on this pitching staff.

Ditman in for Fox.

Curious, is it Dit-MAN, or DiT-man?

Had it not been for last weekend's debacle I might feel confident. We play a lot of close games. Time to win one.
