Hmmm

I would be so very happy if the reports are true. 04-cheers

If MTSU and WKU had just held the line this wouldn't even be up for debate. Marshall, ODU, and UTEP would be scrambling.

I think most SBC fans would actually hope for CUSA to take Georgia State so it would further weaken their closest competition.

Georgia State will be just fine. And they'll probably beat you guys like a drum when you open at the Georgia Dome in a year. 05-mafia

At least Charlotte won a game last year, which is more than Georgia State can say.

Yea, but they weren't playing UNC Pembroke Pines. They got better as the season went on. They'll be no pushover next year.

In fairness, UNCP (Braves) was a pretty good D2 squad and did make the D2 playoffs.

I see a move for Missouri State to the SBC making a lot more sense if you could somehow get a FB only invite BUT it may also depend on how progressive the leadership is at Missouri State.

If the leadership is progressive enough they might just jump at a full invite to the SBC on the premise of doing what they need to do to put themselves in a position of upgrading to a better conference in the next 5-10 years.

Long range Missouri State could join CUSA or if CUSA splits they have a great chance of linking up with the western based group. If they don't take an offer to move up however they'll be left behind when then occurs.

I'm guessing you're still thinking the CUSA is a step up? I give it only a couple more years until that silly notion is gone.

In the eyes of Missouri State or JMU its probably still viewed as a step up because the schools have more athletic tradition, particularly at UTEP, Rice, So Miss, UAB and Marshall.

It takes a while to get the right coaches in place at the FBS level, the facilities you need ect....that is the real advantage of the AAC is its a group of schools that have been trying to carve out a name for themselves for a long while and have names people recognize in athletics.

I'm just not seeing this athletic tradition claim. The only claim I see is better tv money and that more then likely changes in a couple years.

There are 6 CFP bowls (Rose, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar, Peach, Orange).

With the exception of USF, every single school in the AAC has been to one of those 6 major bowls sometime in their history. Even Temple. Even Tulsa as surprising as what that is. USF played 10 years in a power conference so they get a pass.

Of the 14 schools in CUSA, Rice is the only one ever to play in one of those six bowl games. The average amount of years at the FBS level in CUSA is 16.8.

The average amount of years in FBS in the SBC is 14.5 with NMSU and ULL the only 2 schools that have been at the top level the whole duration. That years number will go down with the 12th addition. No SBC school has ever won 11 games in a season or finished ranked in the Top 25.

Its not purely market math that goes into determining who provides more value. Schools like Charlotte, UAB and WKU have name recognition from playing in higher profile basketball conferences. Its less about markets and more about tradition in most cases.

Hmmm

That would rock for the SBC.

With an unbalanced 13 it could mean that Idaho is stepping back to the Big Sky or that they'll wait a year and see if UMass wants a FB-only.

Looks like they will go down the list until one accepts. JMU and MSU first and they will be given a deadline and told if you do not accept, we will be moving to the next team to invite. This will force a decision. JMU will have to decline knowing Liberty will get the invite if they they do so.

I'm not debating SBC vs AAC, I consider them a good little bit higher then us, but I don't see more tradition in the coosa, I see a tradition of average to sub par teams in other conferences with one or two teams that were impressive in the previous conference, but many of their old impressive teams are meh now or have left for greener pastures, the CUSA is an amalgamation of teams that were either amazing a while ago but not very good now, were sub par and blamed the belt for their problems, or just started their team, really my only exception to these descriptions are two teams that left only a little while and one ruined a lot of cred it had by trying to gouge the eyes of service members; MTSU and the other school is all around good an the worst loss inflicted; WKU

Given that the MAC has shut down expansion and CUSA is holding at 14---JMU would be foolish to throw away a bird in the hand. Even if they feel they belong in CUSA---getting there one day would be a heck of a lot easier if you are already FBS. There may not be many golden tickets to FBS for a while--it would foolishly arrogant to throw one away at this point in time.

I'd expect MSU and JMU to both accept. I'd find it hard to believe the Sun Belt would offer an invitation without getting a solid vote of confidence from the schools that they were going to accept. I suppose the formal process includes JMU and MSU to actually apply and be voted in but they wouldn't get the invite if that wasn't a formality. But crazier things have happened.

I am hearing nothing that suggests that Mo State has been given any sort of deadline or drop dead date. I was told they would be a great member but probably can't be ready to move this year, and that didn't seem to be any sort of issue.

Personally sometime after Arch Madness next year would be the timeframe IMO. We potentially have a top 2 Valley team next year, one that could possibly challenge Wichita State, another non-NCAA bid out of the Valley and the basketball boosters where the big bucks are would swing a lot easier.

Thing with Missouri State is that we can essentially invite the Bears at any point, and they could just hold off football till 2016. The MVFC is a separate entity from the rest of the league, so they could withdraw from the Valley, while still leaving football in the league for an extra year if they so chose.

Then it would be 11 this year (2014), 12 next year ( Missouri St. in 1st year transition) (2015), and 12 in 2016 (Idaho exits and Missouri St. enters in football)

This works out nicely also.

I honestly can't think of a better scenario for all teams involved. By 2016 the East has its favorite in JMU the west has its favorite in MSU and we all lose the long travel partner in Idaho. Nothing against the Vandals but it is a long, long way out of the footprint. Football and Men's Bball is strengthened. Travel is cut down and we get a W vs. E champ game.

Much better than the overrated Gates place, which is the second most overrated BBQ in America.
