lol. I wish you could've put that last actual sentence first so I couldn't have wasted my time reading this comment.

You clearly haven't been downtown anytime in the last decade if you consider turner field, a stadium that is max 5 blocks away, off campus.
We have parked in the blue lot since the 80's and students used to regularly walk to their cars. I see those 32k students all over downtown daily. Downtown is our campus.

Some of the worst areas of Down town. Hence why the Braves are leaving...the only reason you have the opportunity is because the area is crappy. 03-lmfao
The Braves are leaving because they are butthurt at not getting Falcons treatment and because their few fans live in Cobb and North Fulton. I stick to my previous comment. You don't know what you're talking about.

I believe they currently have over a billion dollar in bonds all ready AND just recently raised the student fees to fund the football program. I don't see them being able to get more money from the state or the students at this time which would mean they would have to raise private funds to make it happen. Not a good track record with that.....

Yeah, we have money problems. LOL!

I think you dont have a very good idea as to where GSU lies vs Downtown and vs the Ted.

not on campus, north and west of two major interstates and depending on where you are a good walk in the city which is different than an on campus walk. It is possible not to live ITP and know a lot about the ATL. Especially when you are in real estate and actually go off research.

Well, being in real estate, you should also know nothing beats windshield time and pounding the pavement. I made that walk from campus to Turner Field probably 50 times for Braves games. Once you leave campus, you walk by the capital(judging by the Georgia State Patrol presence pretty safe 2 blocks there), cross the interstate, and you are at the blue lot. The walk is nothing. Get out from behind your computer and try again.

The Braves have more than a few fans and the $400 million and control over retail revenue are the reason for the move, not because they got their feeling hurt... I will admit that the area by the Ted is not the terrible place many like to make it out to be and would be ideal for GaSt. Hopefully for your sake there isn't a bidding war. I would assume there would be a fair amount of interest in the property since land this size doesn't come around very often in the middle of a major city. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Hope it works out for you guys.

Braves have fans, but they cant get them to come to games. That place is empty a lot of the time.

In fairness, Turner Field is very large (probably too big) and the Braves attendance correlates exactly to the market size.

I hope Georgia State is able to secure this property and use it for student housing or mixed uses. Downtown needs help and I personally think having students living there rather than a stadium that sits empty for a vast majority of the year would be a big boost.

Selfishly, maybe it will help distract the bldg department away from the data centers I'm trying to build. 03-wink

The Braves are consistently in the top half of the league for attendance. It may look "empty" because it's the second largest MLB stadium in the country, but they average over 30K per game almost every year.

But I digress, if anyone knows what the definition of a "few fans" is it's Panama.

If the city of Atlanta had agreed to build the braves a new field (like the falcons) or gave them money to update it, they would still be in atl. If you don't believe that, then you are clearly off base. The braves organization stated they went to the city for the money, and were rejected, before the began discussions with cobb county.

Soooo your saying the area around the Ted is good...stick to whatever you want bruh07-coffee3 It had to do with ATL leadership being so corrupt and inept they couldn't make the area around the stadium half way decent in how many decades? Tell yourself what you need to tell yourself though bruh. Tell me about all the super nice bars, condos, restaurants, and neighborhoods bordering the Ted...or I can show you crime maps and foreclosure maps if you would like.

Walk around the "subs" just east and south of the stadium broham at night. I dare ya.

http://crime.mapatl.com/ The area around GSU's "campus" and the Ted are two of the highest crime areas in one of the highest crime cities in the country. Keep on keeping on. Yes the Braves were just "butt hurt" what a joke. I was actually kinda rooting for GSU to improve but it does not take long for all three or four of GSU fans on here to change your mind.

Well our SAT scores have been higher, so you might learn something. You are ghetto and commuter U undergrad with transient masters and doctorate students who give to craps about the school other than the convenient location. It is easier to get into GaState than GaSou btw today check it, no entrance matrix at GS. You have time on us being a U for decades longer and a location that would lend itself for higher enrollment for post secondary interest congrats. With all those masters and doctorates degrees confirmed but yet cant raise decent money for athletics or get respectable attendance at athletic events. Your baseball team plays in Panthersville....f'ing Panthersville...in a rec league field...really. Hopefully you get picked up by Coosa because of market size so the Sun Belt will not be continued to be dragged down.

Challenge accepted! Again... You should get out more. East on Georgia Ave, you can park for free on the street. I have done that for years for Braves games I'm running late to, and my girlfriend lived in Kirkwood. So again, I have walked up to 4 blocks east at 11pm at night with no issues to my car or myself for years. But anyway... you were talking about the walk FROM State originally. So please tell me more about what you see from your computer about places I have seen in person.

RE: GSU eyes campus expansion with Turner Field
I've tailgated behind the Ted a couple of times before. Never again. I'll sweat it out in the huge concrete parking lot before going back there again.

I don't feel like having my wife accosted by groups of young teenagers and old men that feel the need to comment on her appearances or what they would do with her if they had a chance...or don't feel like having to keep watch over the lot because some gentlemen were snooping in people's windows....or don't feel like watching blue lights and hearing sirens and jack wagon cops who are inconsistent in what you're allowed to cook or drink.

No exaggerations either. My experiences may not be the norm, but it's just not a nice area back there. The city of Atlanta failed the Braves in never doing anything to help spruce up the area.

I just don't see how Georgia State would have the money to

1. Buy the land and property
2. Re-design and configure the Ted
3. Pay insurance
4. Keep up maintenance
5. Develop the area around the stadium so it won't be like UAB in 30 years.

No spring game? No Turner Field.

Yes the Braves were just "butt hurt" what a joke.

It had a lot to do with it. I am from Cobb County. I live there today. I honestly believe the Braves had no intention of leaving Turner Field. But... When a city decides to use 14 or so million to buy a church, and put through a Hotel Tax to pay $200 Million dollars for a stadium it doesn't own while neglecting the tenant in the stadium it does own(that it has nothing invested it). Not to mention in the past 10 years, the tenant has spent upwards of $200 million in upgrades. And... in the negotiation the city manager was quoted as saying, "it isn't like you can move." Heck, Arthur Blank said yesterday if he was put in the same situation as the Braves, he would have done the same thing.

It is never one thing, but I think a portion of it was a "we'll show you" attitude.
