Exclamation South Alabama vs Troy
The rivalry (at least on here) seems to be heating up. This is looking to be a good game that most on here will probably tune into if their team is not playing.

After reading many of the threads on this board over the last two or three weeks, the overwhelming majority of South fans feel this is the year they will beat Troy. It could happen, no team can win forever. But I think it will be difficult with the offense Troy is putting on the field. I expect it to still be a close game and obviously a high scoring one on both sides. What is the rationale for such confidence in USAs abilities to get it done this year?

This is not a smack talk thread, just want some thoughts.

There is only one sport. All other are played to past the time until the real sports season comes back around.

I still think TROY will get the job done, but it depends on 2 factors... The QB and our defense... I believe the QB situation will be fine, but the defense is still a big question mark.

That would be the 11 players on the field when the other team is on offense that try there best to keep the other team from putting points on the board.

This game will be played in Mobile and will be the best opportunity for the Jags to beat Troy to date. The quarterback situation at South seems to be in good hands but the jury, IMO, is still out on his erratic play of the past. If he can make some big changes and his game improves then South should win. Either way this should be one of the better SBC games of the year.

A) I think most USA fans looking on last year's game thought they had the better team but a couple of unusual plays cost them the game (namely the 4th and 1 play where the USA QB had his helmet knocked off and was called down when he was going to easily make the marker.).

B) Nine starters returning on offense. USA should have the best receiving corp in the conference with 1st-team All-SBC TE Wes Saxton and 2nd teamer WR Shaverez Smith along with teammates Jereme Jones and Danny Woodson Jr being joined by Alabama transfers Marvin Shinn and Josh Magee. Two returning all-conference offensive linemen and all-conference honorable mention RB Jay Jones will help make Brandon Bridge's transition to full time starter much easier. Bridge, a fifth year senior, is the most physically talented QB in the conference and in the spring looked like he is putting everything together for a big year.

C) While the depth won't be as strong as last year, the USA defense returns a solid group off the squad that was one of the best in the conference in 2013.

South will overwhelm Troy, not a doubt in my mind. USA continues to improve while Troy to be honest continues to regress.

The only SBC team South Alabama overwhelmed was Louisiana. 30-8. But they will be very good. Their defense is the best in the belt, and they have (on paper) an offense than can compete with Troy's.

No one in this conference will overwhelm Troy. No one has since 2011, not even Louisiana and that was the only year anyone did since 2005. The last two years, every SBC game Troy has played has been within 13 points. We may get beat, but we don't lay down for any of you guys.

Troy has improved the last three years, by how much is hard to say. Our record has improved, but we're also playing easier teams. Troy will improve again, with the best offense Troy has had in a very long time. They will again, like last year, be the SBCs top offense. Defense will need to step up to have chance to be in the hunt.
