If living in Knoxville is your dream job, you need better dreams.

I'd rather make 1.3 million in Knoxville than 600k in Ruston LA...

I think it's more about would you rather live in Knoxville for 1.3 mil or whatever job he is offered after next season. Which I believe will be a 2 mil + at a better program. Its just like Sonny Dykes. He could've taken 1mil in Houston but he would've missed out on 2mil at Cal the next year.

What's stopping him from going UT to wherever he wants to end up?

Depends on what his UT buyout is...and how well his UT team would do next season. If they have a mediocre season, he won't be as desirable. He knows what he has at Tech....a NCAA top 10 Assist/Steal guy, a NCAA top 10 shot blocker, our leading scorer for his first two years who was hurt most of this past season, and a great recruiting class coming in.

The problem for good basketball schools like LA Tech and Southern Miss is that ntil this league is more than a one bid conference and has a better tv deal, it will be hard to keep good coach's no matter how stacked a team is. These guys are loyal only to themselves and will take whatever job pays the most and gives them most job security and chances to win.

Most people wouldn't turn down a 100% raise. Tyndall wouldn't even talk to Tulsa, so the dude has some notion of loyalty. We all have our price, though, particularly when there are kids to take care of. It's not a horrible thing.

The best thing Southern Miss can do is to commit to a million-dollar goal for our revenue sport head coaches ASAP.

I think CUSA will get to a 2 bid league if we can continue to keep good coaches. WKU is a good add for us on the BB side. White makes 600k without bonuses at Tech and maybe the highest in the conference and that needs to change for CUSA to improve.

I read somewhere that white is tied with UTEP's coach for highest paid in the conference.

This is true even with high end, blue chip jobs. Remember when Alabama got turned down several times before hiring Saban, or all the craziness around the Texas football HC hire?

The UTK basketball job is nowhere near as desirable as those jobs are. How fast someone will jump at it is directly related to what that person's current job and near future hiring prospects are.

Spent the weekend over in Sand Springs which is right outside of Tulsa.. Tulsa has the same problem USM has.. For every Tulsa shirt or cap I saw, I saw 5-10 Oklahoma or OSU shirts or caps. I think OSU even has a campus in Tulsa as well which stinks.

Both OSU and OU have campuses in Tulsa. It'll always be an uphill battle against orange and red for us.

OU has a medical school in Tulsa. Tulsa U. and OU have a cooperative venture in that OU's medical school students can take certain courses at TU which can be applied towards a degree from OU.

It doesn't really have anything to do with where the OU and OSU campuses are located.

TU is a private school of 3000 undergraduates, so you're never going to see the public embrace us like the state schools. In our backyard of a million people or not.

I'm impressed you saw ANY Tulsa gear in Sand Springs, honestly.

I saw a couple of folks wearing shirts. Now we went into a Dick's over by the mall and Union High School, I was impressed with the Tulsa section in Dick's.

I guess Tulsa shouldn't feel so bad about being rejected by Mike White since he did the same thing to Tennessee.
