Meanwhile EKU continues with what they need to do

They've made 20 appearances in the Iaa/FCS playoffs. Second to only Montana. Have a few Iaa championships under their belt, though 30 years ago. They have a good starting point with their current stadium and it's easy to expand it. They have a President that wants to be FBS and in the Belt.

Exactly !

Appy State and EKU use to be gridiron rivals as well.

I went to the first EKU -vs- App State game.
Enjoyed the drive to Richmond, Kentucky.

Just saw the slides from the President's Forum on tuition at EKU yesterday. Proposed a $50 a semester athletics fee for all students attending the main campus in Richmond and taking more than 5 hours. This would be a new fee at EKU.

If your reading lexcolonel this is another area where Jax st. Is ahead of eku in preparations to move up. Not a slam on eku but just saying you are late to the game.

What because EKU has been better than JSU at FCS without an athletic fee?

Do you really think the athletic fee would stay the same if you did move up? Chances are it wouldn't.

JSU doesn't have an athletic fee.

IF that's true there is no way you could make the transition without one.

Agree, don't see it on your fee list.

Wonder if any of the General University Fee goes to athletics?

JSU was not listed for comparison in the Athletic Forum briefing like many of the OVC schools and others in general. Was surprised at how high the fees are at App St.

UL has no athletic fees. It is a very, very difficult thing to grow the budget without hitting the students who IMO have enough credit burden for their education without adding hundreds of dollars every semester.

Nothing compared to how high JMU"s are. Plus their percentage of that as a total amount of their athletic funds is much higher than Apps.

How many students does EKU have on the main campus? I don't think $50 will come close to being enough and at some point he will have to take some heat because fees are the only sure money that can be counted on (other than season tickets) to grow. The last time I checked I thought EKU had a total of 16,000? even at that number * $100 year = 1.6 million and I don't see how that would even cover the added salary for your coaches. I'm sure it will for football but if you are successful at other sports..it goes up across the board. Football alone the top of the SBC is spending 1.2 million and up on football staff.

I forgot what Westerns started out but I know it's not close to that number today. I want to say $200 a semester but honestly after my son's 2nd year (Sr with 1 semester left) I stopped paying attention and just look at the total and write a check. But I guess it's best to get something low that won't raise a lot of objections then come back year 2 and say.....

we need more! at that point there's not a lot of choice but to let a fee increase pass.

$1.6 million more and at least $1 million from football distribution, plus other distributions and you
have probably at least $3 million to help with additional expenses. Good start.

Not sure, but to my knowledge JSU doesn't have any fees.

As of 2011, which is the last year covered in the USA Today database, App's total subsidy was 50%, meaning 50% of our expenses are covered by institutional support, which includes student fees. That percentage is 80% for JSU, 82.4% for EKU and 83% for JMU.

Only fee I noticed on my daughter's bill was $100 for a parking ticket. She appealed the ticket based on how the signage was done, waited for an answer, finally got a letter saying appeal denied, went down to pay it and the fine had quadrupled because it wasn't paid timely. 05-mafia

At Texas State (at least when I was there), you couldn't even appeal the ticket until you paid it.

So, you pay it, appeal it, then MAYBE in 6 months you get a letter saying it was declined. If you were lucky.

I swear you could fund a medium sized country with the parking fines given by a single university.
