the K & Y legislature approved the $15M bonds and paid for through existing revenue streams for athletic facilities improvements with the intent to "try and raise $15M in private donations to match the state's allocation."
Best case scenario looks like $20-30M in athletic improvement funds given the degree to which private contributions come through.

Good start for sure. If their leadership did what our finally did and lay out a well structured plan it would likely get the fan base excited like it did ours. The mushroom treatment from the previous leaders did not work. It is a shame because we were rolling and the economy was great. GS missed a huge opportunity in the late 90's early 00's. No telling where we would be today if we would have had the Pres and AD we have now. EKU, JMU and MSU better get on the ball. There are not going to be any new conferences being formed anytime soon and really no incentive to expand past 12. There probably will be one more realignment shake up but nothing huge and might not even trickle down to the Belt as some conferences have more than 12 teams already.

I recall visiting the WKU campus back in 1995 while I was stationed at Ft. Campbell Ky
I remember how their stadium looked then, and it wasn't an architectural marvel either. I hope the Colonels do get an invite, better EKU than Liberty or UMass.
I'd rather have EKU, ugly stadium and all than a pristine LU.

Go look at the 2 campuses now and get back to me.....Even in 4 years (98-02) when I was a student at WKU the campus changed considerably for the better.....Now I have trouble recognizing campus with all of the changes for the better...

WKU's attendence was nothing to brag about before we made the jump but we averaged more than 8500 per game..

That is a good start. What are the specific plans for the football stadium and projected costs? Are there any long term plans, say over the next ten years? The amounts mentioned seem low for major renovation.

Well, you can read the article for yourself, it was about EKU's funding from the legislative session. It had no specific spending targets other than stating that all sports would benefit.

Give credit to EKU.
They made an announcement about their intentions to pursue FBS.
They got money approved and plan on raising more to upgrade their facilities.
We do not know what discussion their president has had with the SBC but imagine
there has been some from the sound of it, and I believe their president mentioned that.
Only Liberty has done more than EKU to show their interests in joining us.

You said WKU averaged 8500 when it made the jump?
EKU averaged over 8600 in 2013.

Do what? No I never said that, I said we averaged way more in our last years in FCS than the 8500 EKU just put up...My point was renovating our stadiums, adding on to campus with more buildings, haviing more scholarships, creating more sports, etc took us about 10 years of planning and doing before we made the jump to FBS in 2008...Since about 2004 or so WKU has grown more than any university in the state....The enrollment has tailed off recently but we basically went from 14k enrollment to 22k enrollment in a 10 year time frame.....EKU is where WKU was in 1997, we made the jump in 2008....With less money now than back than, their is no way EKU is ready before at least 6 or 7 years from now...Anyone that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves....

I dont have the exact numbers on our attendece last few seasons in FCS, but I know we averated way more than 8600.....

I am not getting into a p...... Match with Western fans. Bottom line is this. They have done wonders in BG campus wide. Kudos to you!
But they have no idea what EKU can or will do. The my dogs bigger than yours arguement is old news, they learned it well however from uk fans. As I said earlier President Benson has recently addressed many of the issues faced when moving to FBS , including upgrades to several athletic facilities including RK Stadium, he specifically said 30 million for football.

I still say that we cant invite EKU as long as their President is named Benson. Its just too freaky.

It'd be like there was a Benson conspiracy, very X-File-ish.

So there are no specific amounts for stadium improvement that have been discussed. It sounds like this is just the very beginning of planning, with actual improvements several years away.I wish the school success if they do decide to make major renovations.

Yes, for the THIRD time. First 15 million for various athletic improvements, including RK Stadium.
And Last week President Benson said an additional 30 million for RK Stadium!

30 million sounds good. What is the source of the money?

Raise private monies. And he does mention a student athletic fee, but no specific amount was given. He assured students it would not be exorbitant.

Probably will need a corporate sponsor for this amt of money. During the ten years of WKU's athletic renovations and improvements I think total expenditures were around $100M. Hope EKU has success.
