And we have to replace Ross Metheny, our QB. He was very underrated. I hope his replacement is as good.

While I think USA was probably playing the best football in the conference at season's end. the utter and complete beat down we put on ULL was a bit of a case of ULL operating without a QB. I still think that USA would have beaten ULL with Broadway in the game, but ULL would have at least presented a game.

That game was a big WTF moment. USA could have won that game by 60 points had they left their starters in the game. By halftime, I felt sorry for the ULL folk that had driven over. Not only were they getting their butts kicked, but the game was held in some of the most miserable weather imaginable.

We lost to South? Gee yea I recall that, but not so much as you think. Pretty sure South fans get more happiness out of it than we get funked. But then we have not had too much time to dwell on it, third bowl victory in a row, SBC champs and NCAA appearance, No. 1 ranked baseball, top twenty softball, great recruiting class and bash. Great crop of top thirteen basketball players in the state signed and delivered. Great point guard to probably go in first round of NBA. Lots of salve to soften that loss.

Again, I have no idea why you guys did so poorly in that game. That was the worst first half performance I've seen in a long time. Even losing Broadway didn't excuse that. Congrats on the baseball and basketball success.

That's in addition to talking about our top 20 softball team, top 5 baseball team, basketball winning the conference tourney and making the dance, Elfrid Payton leaving for the draft.

The loss to USA 4 months ago which came prior to our 3rd straight bowl win stopped being talked about not long after the game ended. Fans were caught up planning the trip to NO and talking about the matchup with Toolame potentially without Broadway.

But I should take your word for how the fan base I belong to and interact with daily feels about the loss right? Please. I'm not saying no one remembers it, but we care so little about it that when I see a USA fan use it as smack it always makes me chuckle.

It's understandable why USA fans still have it fresh on their minds. Their traditionally strong programs (baseball, basketball) are struggling right now, and outside of softball, that win was the last significant win to hang their hat on.

^this^

In the overall scheme of things, the USA game was nothing more than an anomaly that followed the game that really hurt....the loss to the Monrovians.

The Cajuns not only came up short on the scoreboard, we lost our starting quarterback and team leader as well. And then there was that distasteful, limp-wristed display by the PA announcer (with orders coming from above of course) during the game of more bullshyte to come re the branding issue. What had been an outstanding season to that date, literally stopped dead in its tracks that night.

To me, the loss to USA a week later came as no surprise. That Broadway was able to play in the bowl game so soon after surgery and that the Cajuns played as well as they did made me proud and assures me that, barring injuries, the Cajun team will be even better this year.

Neither the loss to the Monrovians nor the Jaguars is forgotten and I believe both will be avenged decidely this year.

I think USA is a wildcard.

ULM lost a lot.

Troy still has the same old coach :)

Texas St will be better on offense but defense seems iffy (though defense wasn't all it was cracked up to be last year)

NMSU is still rebuilding

Idaho is still rebuilding as well

Georgia St will be better but a year or two away from contending

Georgia Southern has a new coach but will probably win some like TXST and USA did last year

App St may struggle. Give them a couple more years.

UL is loaded but in this conference I wouldn't just assume they are top two. Strong chance but injuries can happen.

Can stAte shake off another coaching change yet again?

Yea, I'm cautiously optimistic about USA. But I'd be wildly optomistic if Metheny was returning.

I think the Moaners have proven they are two totally different teams, one with a healthy Browning capable of giving anybody fits, and with out him, or hurt, pretty awful. No more Browning. ULM will finish in the bottom third.

UL on the other hand has had two difference maker quarterbacks in three successful seasons. I am pretty confident that Broadway will be his old self this fall, but we know he will probably be out for a game or two. We need to prove we are not like the Moaners and can win a game without him.

Quarterback Nixon I am told needs to get his grades in order, if he does it will be very interesting who will be number two in the scheme of things. Maybe situational number twos depending on the defense we face.

App State may struggle, like was said, but I believe we will have the best two running back
combination in the SBC hopefully, much improved OL, and with 2nd year of new DC our
defense will be better. Going to be interesting.

That is impressive thoughts 70. I might remind you UL has the true freshman of the year running back in the "Prophet", Elijah McGuire, and the former freshman of the year, Alonzo Harris, MVP NOLA Bowl, and all conference 2012 &13. The "Prophet" per carry rush is in the elite of the NCAA stat leaders. Just saying we might have some quality there.

To me, you guys coming in this year will be like TxState was to me last year. I was really anxious to see how they'd perform, figured they'd really shake things up in the conference race, and was disappointed to see the final result. I know they were disappointed as well.

Good luck this fall AppState!

Excellent observation.

Those who watched the Cajun team all year didn't recognize the team on the field with USA that night. And those who watched USA all year, at halftime, figured it was just another game with a USA lead destined to be lost in the final seconds.

That, of course, didn't happen.

One thing that is going to make a world of difference in last year's App/GS teams is the amount of enthusiasm on field and in camp this year.

I think it's already a night and day difference with the coaches and players in the level of enthusiasm on the field and that translates directly into one's ability to learn (new systems, etc.).

This time last year there was a lot of "Well are our guys really motived? What's the emotion like at practice?" There is an overwhelming approval with both the coaches and the players on our fields right now.

Ultimately though, I think our two programs success will rely heavily on the amount of injuries we sustain this season. Our 1's can run with any teams 1's in the Belt IMO, our 2's and 3's will struggle a good bit.

That is what is so interesting about this year. We really have no idea where we stack up vs. other Sun Belt teams. This fall we find out.

Y'all will do pretty well, SBC teams not used to defending triple option. The question will be can your defense provide enough cushion for the time consuming triple option. That time consumption can be both good and bad depending on the circumstance you find yourself in.

This. I do take heed of what all the other recent transition teams have said about moving up and understand it could get ugly, but our football program has been known for doing the unexpected so I remain hopeful. I'm expecting around a 6-6, but hopeful for 8-4 or better, but fully understand a few turnovers or lack-luster finishes could easily put us at 4-8.

I ran your post through Word Saver and came up with:

We might do well, but maybe we won't.

Good luck GaSouthern. Glad you guys joined the Belt.04-cheers

I checked last year's consensus:

http://preseason.stassen.com/consensus/2...l#sun-belt

The consensus winner won.
The top four consensus finished in the top four.
The bottom four consensus finished in the bottom four.

But still gotta play the games.

Who's got an experienced QB returning?
Who's got experience on the lines returning?

We can only do the best we can. Not going to expect the worst and hope for the best though. Just going to enjoy seeing how we stack up. Don't take this the wrong way but would be hated by the SBC anyway if we won the conference, yeah - fat chance, because teams with bowl eligibility would suffer. Would actually hurt the conference. So enjoy this year, I plan to.

True. Neither program has built up the real quality back ups we need to have, so injuries are going to play a larger part than any other year.
Different atmosphere this year though, and less punches pulled. NCAA should change the way transition is handled. Puts negative vibes where they shouldn't exist.

In sports talk, hate normally translates to mean respect, though most fans on either side usually don't like to admit it.

Over the last few months, via reading AppState fan posts and reading about your program's history, I have gained a lot of respect for what you guys have done through the years and am very proud that your administration saw the wisdom of choosing the Belt as its FBS home.
