I feel like I live in live in Lala land every time I hear that on this board...yeah leave your conference with the money and bowl tie ins for a conference that's seriously considering liberty as a member...

What MIGHT (and I stress might) be in play with regards to UMass is the basketball games against Sun Belt teams being appealing to Missouri State. With a built in big name opponent on the schedule nearly every year (ok, probably every year), it can help show Missouri State that we are not going to ignore basketball. Plus, it gives other schools that are more in line with finding an App State travel partner time to get ready for a move.

Adding UMASS would even out the divisions

East

Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Liberty (not JMU)
*Massachusetts
South Alabama
Troy

West

Arkansas State
*Idaho
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Missouri State
New Mexico State
Texas State

Idaho and UMASS would be for football only and put the belt in solid footing if raided again...however in time the belt will do nothing but build its reputation.

Yes because best case scenarios are never considered to be in "lala land"...

Pull up tonight's espn3 broadcast of Liberty vs vmi baseball, look at the 2800 fans in attendance and then keep pretending considering us is a joke. I get that you don't want us cause of the controversial things that are associated with falwell etc, but athletically, financially, attendance, atmosphere, academics, facilities wise we are a top notch choice. Keep sticking your head in the sand but when you come up you'll realize what we bring.

RE: Best Case
Obviously like any scenario, which includes UMass. Some say we are emulating WKU, which was terrible the first three years and then became a good team. Our year three in FBS will probably be better than WKU. Having Mark Whipple back is huge. He took us from nothing in 1997 to FCS Champions in 1998. He left for the pros when we did not make the jump to FBS. Home opener against Boston College should be fun.

Here is a clip on day 9 spring practice.

RE: Best Case
When I think about this possible line-up...

East

Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Liberty (not JMU)
*Massachusetts
South Alabama
Troy

West

Arkansas State
*Idaho
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Missouri State
New Mexico State
Texas State

and having this line-up for oly sports...Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Arkansas Little Rock, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Liberty (not JMU), Missouri State, New Mexico State, South Alabama, Texas Arlington, Texas State and Troy

Causes me to see that losing North Texas, FAU, FIU, Middle Tennessee and WKU is no big deal... I feel better about our future.

As a general rule. When your school is in a conference, and likely going to be there for a long time...its never a good idea to bash said conference.

Its not like ASU is going anywhere...so we better make the best of what we have rather than trashing everything the league does.

You're letting what a few fans on a message board say get to you way too much. Many JMU fans would enjoy being in the Sun Belt and the administration has said nothing publicly to disparage the SB.

Both Liberty and EKU is making their intentions known from their administrations. JMU's intentions are not known and the hour glass is about to expire. We know the JMU didn not act on an offer from the belt last year. I want to see institutions who want to be in the belt to be added.

We also didn't move two years ago when ODU approached us about moving up together (presumably to either CUSA or the MAC). A lot has changed at JMU in the last few years including getting a new president. This new president has then had to convince others that an FBS move would be good for the school. Because of this needed political convincing, we wouldn't have moved anywhere last year unless an impossible ACC invite came.

That is like saying that a Sun Belt or CUSA team was a possibe for an SEC or Big 12 invite... not in this life!
