[The recruit] wanted to add that he “really likes where GSU is headed in the future.”

31 5A State Championships in my hometown alone, 10 miles from the Florida line. We like dafeatball in south Georgia. After 100 years the competition in the region has become quite impressive. I believe 5 seniors from my highschool received schollys from SEC schools last year. We get a little excited about highschool football.

Lately?

When has that not been the case? Hell you could probably make the case just on the backs of Valdosta, Lowndes County and Carver Columbus.

Having said that, there are some very good metro Atlanta programs and some very good North Georgia programs, but I'm not aware of a time that south Georgia wasn't the dominant region.

As a Lassiter grad of the same era(c/o 02) I'm very familiar with both programs, but blips of success doesn't change the fact that the strength has been predominantly found in South Georgia.

Okay you got me there. What's really great is that south Georgia finally has an FBS University to showcase the talent produced in the region. It's certainly worked out well at the FCS level. We tend to know each other down here so the word get's around pretty quick.

There's been some unrest with Alfred Watkins replacement. I was never in band, 9am-9pm rehearsal every Saturday didn't really appeal to me, I do have plenty of friends with a BOA national championship ring though.

Ya my school... East Coweta went head to head against them a lot.

We are talking about recruiting not championships right? If so Metro Atlanta hold 2/3 if the states population and produces more FBS players than any metro not called Dallas.

My wife was a Lassiter Trojan (c/o '03). I remember going to all-state band auditions in high school and being blown away at how many Lassiter students were auditioning and making it. That band program was amazing, and one of the few in the state that were clearly better than us at that time (Thomson).

No way I would have been willing to practice as much them. Balls to the wall.

Those Atlanta schools ain't no joke in football, don't get it twisted, but football is king in south Georgia. In the same way GaSt wants to keep some of that elite talent home, we want to be able to retain those talents down there for ourselves.

We want those in south Georgia to think Georgia Southern when they think college football. Promote the concept it is "their team" representing for south Georgia.

Good luck on the recruiting trail. I know your school is putting a huge emphasis on the metro ATL area. There will be plenty of talent to choose from. Just keep improving and the recruits will keep signing up. I see a lot of potential for GaSt, but a lot will depend on the coaching staff.

Anyone that knows Gwinnett football knows the majority of their success comes because they recruit players just as much as colleges do.

I was going to mention them. But outside of those two programs at their peak, ATL hasn't been very dominant compared to south ga. My senior year (c/o 03) my HS was 11-0 heading into the parkview game. Round 2 of the playoffs and we crossed the 50 yard line once. That was a painful one to watch.
