I never knew he was a transfer. I know he was back in school a couple of years ago. Has anyone heard if he finished with his degree?

Yep, he graduated in 2012.

There was a video about his going back to school and some reactions from students.

Here's a link to the rice.edu article and video about Ricky returning to school for his final semester: http://news.rice.edu/2012/02/17/rice-bas...sh-degree/

And here's a riceowls.com story about Ricky and the 2012 graduation experience of 100 other student athletes, including two baseball players who'd come back and woman tennis player who was at the NCAAs instead: http://www.riceowls.com/genrel/051212aaa.html

Ricky is a once Ina generation player. If I remember correctly, he signed with au. Washington out of HS, was sent to JC either to work on his grades or to wait for a roster spot without burning a scholarship year.

With him, WW, and Bobby Tudor, I thought Schuler had the team turned around. We had two signature wins....

NC State to win the Rainbow tournament...

First win ever over Houston.

We had a signature loss to Texas and the infamous 10 point play. I thought "circus" night was going to be the beginning of an ongoing rivalry with Autry always sold out... boy was I wrong.

Unfortunately, best season was about 0.500 and no post season.

Schuler then left to join Larry Brown as an Assistant with the Trailblazers.

so was Mike Girardi who IIRC came from Merced JC.

Best Central California JC basketball transfer.....only second best Central California JC transfer overall

He did attend BYU out of HS and then transferred to Oregon before going to Merced JC and then Rice

You are right... clown night was Schuler's first year...

Anyone remember Tank Jackson and especially Allan Miller?

Schuler's departure was disastrous to the program.

While I think we would have outright won the SWC if Fred had not taken the Duke job, Ken did have multiple years of success and in 1994 coached us to victory over Texas.

I remember Reynolds. Post his playing days, he ended up working for the same organization I did, although in very different areas.

We have a visit next weekend from a four-time all-state selection in Pennsylvania - Muhammad Ali-Abdur Rahkman. He's a 3-star recruit who scored 2,136 points in his prep career. He's 6-4 but I don't know if he's a guard or a forward.

He's listed as a guard in the recruiting circles. He had an offer from VCU, among other mid-majors.
