Leaving the Sun Belt is the only way to continue having a "growth" with our athletics. Not bashing anyone, but this conference is made up of a bunch of start-up teams. We do have some quality adds in certain sports, but overall we are in the declining stage. For UL to continue on the current path of success (i.e. Facility Improvements, Athletics, Student Pop Growth) we need money. This conference does not give you that opportunity. We will always be dragging behind in RPI due to our conference strength, forcing to play money games because we have "no" TV deals. Our revenue sharing (I know it was voted on) isn't doing any favors to elite conference teams that have to cover expenses of other members. The commish of this league is by far the worst amongst all D1.

Sorry gents, but you can polish a turd all you want, NONE of us will prosper or continue to grow at this rate.

My #3 choice was basically a show or go type situation. Add quality or go find quality elsewhere.

And which conference do your propose holding at gun point until they agree to add you?

We're in the same boat you guys are. No one wants us either...but we're not complaining about something we have no control over.

It's a message board. This is where you discuss, complain, elaborate, etc.

When you form a business model, you look at/for growth. It's called being proactive and trying to stay ahead. We missed the bus on the last realignment because our admins were complacent like most seem to be. You can't be happy with your current situation. We are doing the right things and the dominoes will fall. We are pumping money into the program and hiring the right guys. Almost all of our athletic programs are excelling at a high rate, attendance numbers are through the roof, but if you stay complacent, this money will taper off once again.

You have to look at the whole picture. Lastly, I do like some of the adds as I've said before. I'm not making stabs at anybody...It's just hard to grow a conference when you continuously have departures with less than comparable additions. The Sun Belt is the "welcome mat" to D1 football and were not in a good situation no matter how you spin it.

That's all well and good, you can prepare all you want, but no one is calling your name right now, so leaving just isn't an option.

The problem is that realignment is slowing down alot. Short of some major conference overhaul the movement is about to stop. Right now the Sun Belt is really the only conference who is committed to expansion (by 1 I would assume). No other conference is in expansion mode.

So while I understand all schools want better it seems to me it is time to try to make the best of what we have.

that is probably from the bottom mainly. It's great to get the big head when your

loss of members may have had a contributing effect on why certain schools have
done well recently. If we continue to build, increase our RPI and continue to win,

Sorry, but it's not about being big headed because of the current situation with Athletics. The fan base of UL has been aspiring to GROW for quite some time now. Now, it took for our 100 year old president Dr. A to retire but things are moving in the right direction.

NONE of you can say that you'll be happy to be stuck in the Sun Belt. I ain't buying it guys.

When you have 4 or so "Bowl Eligible" teams being left home during December, when you have a Georgia State basketball team kick a$$ and have a really good overall record and have to play in the NIT, and when you have a conference that has teams getting left out of regionals due to rpi issues in baseball....YOU are not in the right conference.

But hey...let's settle in

From my perspective, I think Ark State and ULL are the glue/cement that is keeping the conference together. Actually, I think they drive the bus right now.

Don't discredit what USA means to AState and Louisiana. Jags leadership has historically been even keeled maybe a touch conservative, easy I-10 trip for the Cajuns, sit in a high value recruiting area for AState, well regarded by the community that hosts a bowl that AState has grown rather fond of as well.

There have been a number of assertions made by posters that may not be accurate at this time. I’m not sure UL, ASU and Texas State will not vote for another eastern program if some compromise is met.

1) I do believe UL, ASU and Texas State would like to see NMSU become a full member. Their basketball and baseball programs will add great value to this conference with Western Kentucky’s departure until the Aggies football program comes around.

2) I also think it’s established that UL, ASU and Texas State will not vote for any Southland Conference program period. So if not Missouri State or NMSU as a full member, I see no other options but to add another eastern program.

3) With some type of compromise in that manner, I could see a possible compromise being struck with UL, ASU and Texas State. At this point with the announcement forthcoming, some type of compromise has been reached.

Don't forget the possibilty of adding UTA football. It is Texas by the way and I do beleive they are the only state school without football.

IF UTA wanted football and announced later today, they would likely sign a class in Feb 2015 and not play a game until September of 15 and even then would likely play a "club" schedule.

They could play a I-AA slate in 2016 and 2017 and start play as a second year transitional in 2018. If they followed the USA model, they'd play an added club year and not appear on the Sun Belt slate until 2019 and be a full member 2020.

That's fast tracking if they know NOW. With the hoops schools have to jump through with students, faculty, and the governing board, 2022 would probably be more realistic.

We're not as frustrated by it because most of our fans understand our only real chance at an invite comes out of a league thatwe're probably in equal footing with anyway.

Look...FBS Football is the Titanic. 1st Class Passengers are all in the P5 leagues. 2nd Class passengers are in the AAC and MWC. 3rd Class is SBC, MAC, CUSA.

Now currently, the door between 2nd and 1st class is locked, so likewise the door between 2nd and 3rd class is locked. Now. You guys could always try and join another 3rd class conference and hope the weight of those top teams is more than the weight of our top teams and that 2nd class group MIGHT let you in. You can try and form your own group of 3rd class passengers and break down the door, or you can stay in the SBC and hope that you're progress is still being watched.

Option 1 and 2 are far from guaranteed...and Option 3 is where you are now. Your choice.

I'm assuming I missed the updates when women's softball and baseball ceased being nationally relevant.

I don't recall a hoops non-conference run men's or women's that had you poised for an at-large that was dashed by league play pulling you down. In fact I recall slightly more than 12 months ago a Sun Belt garnered an at-large berth.

Was there an undefeated run through league play that left you out in the cold nationally that I missed.

Sorry. Load of bull.

Uniform patches don't improve teams. Might distract the fans for a little bit but UNLV became a prominent power in hoops in what was a dreadful Big West, Boise went to the BCS out of a league that has two teams in the bottom 10 of FBS (real bottom ten, not that made up ESPN thing).

Can the league do better? Hell yeah, revisiting the 2007 initiative and actually letting it work without out immediately caving when a few coaches complain would be a nice start.

It is what it is-- we are in a G5 conference. THere is almost no chance of any of us joining a P5 conference. The Sun Belt is now a very good G5 conference and it is getting better. Ga. Southern and App are quality adds for football. There is no reason not to believe the Sun Belt will improve even more in football. In baseball and softball the Sun Belt has nothing to be ashamed of. In both of those sports the Sun Belt is a top 10 at worst conference and potentially top 6. Basketball needs to improve-- there is no doubt. I think it finished 19 of the 33 conferences this year, but there is no reason to believe it can't improve. Realistically I think only 9 conferences got more than 1 bid this year so we were with the other 24 1 bid conferences. And has been pointed out last year we had 2 bids.

So all things considered I would say the Sun Belt, while not the SEC, is a good conference that I feel will only get better.

Sorry about the 2nd question...

Here you go:
It's not just about basketball (one-bid). You are correct in saying that the majority are one-bid leagues. It's about getting into a conference with more quality which in turn leads to better competition, better schedules, better rpi's, more money....see the pattern. Sun Belt will always be the conference where you have to win the league in order to get into the tourneys. It's the nature of the beast.

There's a lot of money and a huge following for the Cajuns right now. Once the right situation comes along, the money will flow. A lot of donors (big oil company owners) are reluctant to throw their money at a money pit. I don't speak for all, but we aspire to try the stepping stone approach. In a perfect world, we'll jump up to Conference USA. I agree with most that this may be a lateral move in the eyes of the Sun Belt, but nationally this is a better overall conference. Garner more attention there with TV rights and better schedules and competition and continue on the winning path. Our location (I-10) puts us right in the path of the Big XII footprint.....bash it now, but it's not out of the realm of possibility..

I'm not lecturing anyone and you calling me an idiot is just the laugh I needed thanks.

We're talking about two different scenarios, for starters I'm not the president of MT and RaginCajun25 is not the president of ULL, furthermore, when we were preparing to leave is well known that there were actually conferences(and specifically ones we had been in contact with) that were in expansion mode, which is not the case presently, nor does it appear to be the case in the immediate future. Lastly, the entire time MT was a member of this conference you never heard me respond to "how do we improve this conference?" by saying "MT leaving".

But thanks again for the laugh.

But on the flip side...

App and Ga.So as the new east wing come to the league with resumes far superior to what FIU and FAU brought. Texas State and USA both very obviously studied the mistakes of those who moved up prior to them.

The turnstile has been no fun but SBC 2014 looks to be superior to SBC 2005.

I'm not lectuting anyone and you calling me an idiot is just the laugh I needed thanks.

But thanks again for the laugh hawk...err Crazy.

I didn't realize that it was against the law to say that the Sun Belt is not our final stop. For me to call it the Suck Belt, which it really is and we've been a part of it long enough to know, is a true testament of what all of you newcomers can expect. The newbies are happy to be D1 finally, but you'll see how we get $hit on and not respected.

I can just about guarantee you that about 75% of the athletic directors and presidents of the universities in this league would love to have the opportunity to move FORWARD. Most of you don't see it now, but once you've stayed awhile, you'll begin to smell the stench too.

But hey...let's settle in

When did the Sun Belt have four eligible teams left at home and what conference do you think you're joining that isn't a one bid league?

You can't be serious????

You do realize that the Sun Belt tried to pay bowls to take its' teams right.

Left Out:
Troy
ULM
Western Kentucky
Texas State
South Alabama

Enjoy: http://www.sbnation.com/college-football...ball-bowls

I can be serious, sorry I didn't follow the Sun Belt bowl situation all that closelythis year, but you failed to answer the 2nd question.

I know how you guys like to fantasize about the Big XII and I actually won't bash it or say you're insane but that would take "the right situation coming along" probably at least three times over several decades, because your next move, be it next year or ten years from now is going to be to CUSA or a comparable league and you aren'tgoing from CUSA to the Big XII, not as either league exists today anyhow, so once you moved from the Sun Belt to CUSA and from CUSA to some other league, than perhaps with the right "growth" that you keep referring to perhaps given your location and passionate fans it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, but I'dsay at this point is far more likely that you never get there.

I can understand and appreciate your big picture mentality, but at the end of the day(today) that all important first move simply isn't there to be made.CUSA isn't going to 16 nor do we appear to be in imminent danger of defectors and even if we found ourselves in expansion/realignment mode for one reason or another while Louisiana is absolutely a shortlist program, I'm not sure you're a slam dunk for an invite if it was only one or two spots.

Dude, has the C-USA board grown tired of your dog and pony show already that you feel it necessary to honor us with your great intellectual presence? Again, you come off as a major hypocrite lecturing Cajun fans. I know it’s difficult for you to read a thread and not give in to your constant urge of posting to convince others how intelligent and important your opinions are to every discussion. By all means continue to post and I will have a few laughs at your constant need to feed your own ego and sense of self-importance!03-nutkick
