I thought NMSU was offered full status a while back?

No it was out to vote and rejected before app and geo south were in and WKU was out

They came a few votes short after WKU and a couple East schools said no.

TV markets and broadcasting rights. MAC just lost a large bargaining chip with the elimination of New England.

Apparently a chip worth less the $67,000 per team that they are giving up by splitting CFP 13 ways.

Wouldn't you think they are setting up a move to the AAC? I mean if UConn wants them, it's a slam-dunk.

RE: UMass leaving MAC.
My guess is either the MAC is about to invite 2 all sports or we have the last spot for FBS team and JMU is gonna have to make up their mind fast.

But the MAC could e about to snatch up JMU and Liberty/MSU Which would put us in a bit if a spot.

I get the TV market thing, but I just don't see UMass to the SBC. I mean SBC from Georgia to NMex to Idaho to Mass? Last year some on here said LU and JMU stretched the SBC footprint too far.

I hope you aren't serious.

Unfortunately, I am very serious.

Makes perfect sense.

Can add NMSU all sports, add UMass football only. Neatly wrapped up.
I am going to invest in airport conference room snacks and catering. 2015-16 is going to be a great year for airport meetings.

The question is whether the AAC wants them. What the MAC has done is essentially say you have two years to figure out where you are going.

State flagship in MA doesn't beat anything.

If the Sun Belt accepts them for football only, they are basically announcing that they are giving up on ever being anything other than a joke.

Totally agree. The combo of Idaho and Umass for FB only would be a huge logistical and financial mess. Makes zero sense whether I'm a Liberty fan or an App fan.

You are an App State fan now....who knew.
Wouldn't you like it if the SBC took UMass and the MAC took JMU and their travel partner Liberty University?

This just erases everything I've said. Can't believe we would even consider UMASS! The Troy poster os correct that UMASS may be in the lead now.

...that happened about 3 minutes past when Benson mentioned Liberty for a third straight year. 05-stirthepot

What makes this crazy if it happens is the geography, not the school

RE: UMass leaving MAC.
Just to clear things up about how this works:

In UMass' contract with the MAC, there is a clause stating that the MAC could invite UMass to join for all sports. If they accept, then great. If not, they must leave entirely, within two years.

So why would the MAC shake up the status quo like this unless they had another all-sports member about to join?

UMass as football only is a terrible decision. Way out of the footprint, they bring a nothing recruiting area, play in a huge NFL stadium which will be more than half empty, especially since no one in Massachusetts cares about seeing teams from Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas, etc, not named LSU, Bama, or Arkansas at least.

Let them pray they get an invite to the AAC or drop back down to FCS.

RE: UMass leaving MAC.
We still don't NEED to add if the ACC gets their proposal met by the NCAA to have divisional championship games, which would mean we could hold a championship game without 12 members. I wonder if UMASS would have the votes and if NMSU has the full-member votes now that WKU is leaving...

JMU all sports vs. UMass football only---- Let me think. JMU wins hands down.
