I'd add in University of North Florida to the list... they have looked into football but said it wouldn't work until they get their enrollment up to 25,000.

This reminds me back to a post on a Razorback board last year wanting to know if they could let UALR start football and become sort of a feeder program to the Razorbacks.

Pretty sure that's what UT is doing with UTSA, although if you ask them they are the next UCLA.

I don't know...the post had it outlined well. Players who succeeded at UALR would be pushed to transfer to Arkansas and players who couldn't hack it at Arkansas could be funneled to UALR. Same thing for coaches.

It was realty humorous, and very much against NCAA rules.

They DESPERATELY need a new administration. Jim Delaney is an idiot who has always been anti-football. He was the guy that made the athletic director agree not to even mention football for them to transition to the A-Sun out of D2.
I suspect in the future there will be some sort of expansion that leads to a split, at that point the usual suspects will be out there.
UT-Chattanooga
ETSU
JMU
EKU
The "L" word
Kennesaw (if they ever get their dept. cleaned up)
And I wouldn't sleep on Northern Kentucky long term.

RE: SBC Developmental League
A Sun Belt development league? This is funny because the Sun Belt is the developmental league to CUSA which funnels to the AAC, then ACC, and on up the food chain. So let me get this straight, the Sun Belt would sponsor an FCS conference and actively recruit schools to join a conference with each other in order that they may one day get invited into the great Sun Belt? How much money would the cash-strapped Sun Belt be paying a year to this minor league conference?

If what you say is true, it will be the same amount we get from CUSA? Nothing.

So why would these schools leave their established conferences that they choose to be in and join the Sun Belt Jr.? Would the Sun Belt not invite someone like Eastern Kentucky in the future if they said no to the Sun Belt and the FCS league they tried to sponsor?

Liberty is begging to get into FBS, not the Sun Belt. Big difference. I'll be a happy member and supporter of the Sun Belt if Liberty joins but don't mistake Liberty's FBS aspirations as a Sun-Belt-or-nothing stance.

Why would I want Liberty to leave its current conference to start a new conference with membership that will always be unstable and fluctuating? Why would any school want to join that? Would you not add a school like EKU to the Sun Belt if they weren't already in your developmental league? What kind of message would that send to your developmental league if you invited EKU if they weren't already in the league? What would keep your developmental league members from accepting invitations to CUSA, MWC or any other conferences?

Nothing.

The thought was the SBC holds the last spot for FBS. How would we determine who to invite if we decided to expand to 14/16. Who are the top candidates if we could have a hypothetical development group?
