If we don't play like a high school team on Sunday we may have made the top 5 but we stunk it up.
I can't wait until we start to really hit the ball similar to last season. Right now we are having to manufacture runs and rely on timely hitting.

Appreciate it man....y'all need to figure out how to close games out. Those Ole Miss losses had to sting!

You have no idea. Completely choked. Our pitching is way better this year, but have to get the bats going. Was glad to see us take the series against an always pesky SLU. I honestly wish you guys the best except for when playing us this year. Keep winning and make the Belt proud. With basketball not being what it used to be the SBC has to make its name in baseball as it helps all of us recruit.

I was just thinking the same thing. Southland baseball was okay but nowhere near this level of competition.

And yet SHSU is in the top 25 and we're not. Better win 7 of our next 8. I would love to get 8/8 though. Okay, 9/9 if we look ahead to Rice.

SHSU beat Rice, Texas Tech, and TCU. They were all ranked (Tech at 26). They lost by one to Texas. If we would have beat Rice, who is 7-5 now, we might be ranked.

Probably not ... not often in the baseball polls do you come out of nowhere and become ranked, especially if you're talking about a mid-week victory over a middle-tier ranked team being the difference

Our SOS sucks this year compared to the last 5-6. We haven't beaten anybody of note....yet. We get our wins vs Tech, A&M, Rice, UH, Baylor now and then (OK, a lot vs UH) or at least split each year but I don't think we're ready for those wins this season and our RPI reflects that. Maybe next year.

In the College Baseball Writers Poll Georgia Southern is receiving votes. We play at #29 College of Charleston Wednesday so that is a chance for a good win and we have Holy Cross for a 3 game home series this coming weekend.

I know it is only 2 plus weeks into the season but the Sun Belt is holding fairly steady at #7 in RPI at this point. Over the next 3 weeks or so the RPI will stabilize. Once conference seasons start the movement up and down the list will slow considerably. But so far the Sun Belt is doing well with some really nice wins. We are very certainly within reach of #5 or even #4 at this point. Good job so far.

RE: UL #7 in Baseball America
Our OOC strength of schedule is fine. The truth is, we haven't played any that's any good YET (other than an extra innings, away loss to Rice). We have upcoming midweek games against Texas (x3), Rice, Texas A&M, Baylor (x2), and Houston.
We play Texas, A&M, Rice, and Baylor midweek every year. We usually play Houston in a weekend series. I'm curious why we never seem to play Texas Tech or TCU.

We did play TTU and TCU. TCU stopped scheduling us in 2011 and Tech in 2012. We usually fared really well vs Tech. Got an occasional win vs TCU.

RE: UL #7 in Baseball America
We have a guy on our site who's every bit as good as anyone in the country on RPI's. The issue right now is there isn't enough games played yet to make a realistic RPI no mater who you're playing. With your wining percentage being only 25% of the total RPI, it's too early to have enough games to make it meaningful. If I'm not mistaken, 3/4 of the RPI is you opponent win percentage (50%) and your opponents opponents win percentage(25%). Attached below is an excerpt of Brian's description from another thread regarding scheduling. I know I've seen a description of the actual RPI calculation and will post it when I find it.
Also ... remember that it is not highly ranked RPI teams that are important to have on the schedule (w/in the context of improving your RPI). It is possible to get a better bump in RPI by playing a team with an RPI rank of 175 ... than a team with an RPI rank of 25. It is more about the team's W-L record. For example, I have concerns about Louisiana playing Alabama at home this weekend in the context of RPI. Middle tier SEC schools are typically not the ones you want to schedule. They play a very difficult schedule (and their W-L record reflects this) ... yet they are good teams and you run the real risk of getting beat. The risk/reward is not in your favor. This is compounded if you lose at home.
The above is only from an RPI standpoint. From a team development perspective (as well as a fan perspective), it is quite beneficial. Getting a couple of wins will also likely help the Cajuns' record vs. the RPI Top 50 (and maybe RPI Top 25) ... selection criteria used by the NCAA Selection Committee.
