Unabridged?
Interesting question. He read the first few chapters on his own, but they were a bit advanced, so I picked it up as our reading time. IIRC, that's where the controversial material was found. But, since I'm not sure if the version I read was abridged or not, I'm not a fully reliable source to answer.

6 Helter Skelter -- The Beatles-- More than one band has done a cover of this song. There's a reason for that: it rocks. And like Bono said, Manson stole the song. I'm glad it's been taken back.

5 Sweet Emotion -- Aerosmith
Even though this list was inspired by the Top 500 countdowns some radio shows would do, I never listened to those (certainly not all the way thru) even to get to the final few winners. Likewise, I never read any lists when completing my own. In fact, it was only a few weeks back that I even found any. But, there are some similarities to this list http://ultimateclassicrock.com/eagles-ho...ock-songs/ that surprised me.
Remember, Aerosmith was almost forgotten when Run-DMC worked with Walk This Way. I hope Steven Tyler sends Rev Run a nice housewarming gift when he completes his home renovation.

First heard that song when they did some re-releases (or was it a hits collection) form their catalog back in the day. I was instantly hooked on it being a great song from them. AND, the fact that it was TWO MAJOR ARTISTS in their respective genres putting this out and cosigning on the video et. all changed music greatly from that point as it inspired a lot of artists to not be afraid to mix rock and rap together and create something all its own.
Yeah, Aerosmith can thank RUN DMC for their career rebirth but it also worked out well for RUN DMC too as that massive crossover hit brought them to a new audience.

Top 3 now. To be honest, I think any of them could be considered #1. So, just wondering if anyone has any guesses as to what they are.

3 Purple Haze -- Jimi Hendrix-- Great rock has great guitar. And there is none better than Hendrix. This is the quintessential blend of psychadelia with hard rock.

2 Born to Run -- Bruce Springsteen-- Another ode to youth. A song that gets people moving as the drums start. Springsteen captures the essence of American rock here, a masterpiece crafted in the same line as Elvis, Del Shannon, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jan and Dean, etc. NJ references that somehow fit anywhere in the country.

Springsteen's voice is right next to Dylan's for worst in rock and roll.
Both write great songs, but are terrible singers.
P.S. If I had to pick a Springsteen song it would definitely be Atlantic City.

Springsteen and Dylan voices are not as bad as Billy Corgan, with that said, I think
John Lydon’s voice (as unpleasant as it is) is perfect for his particular musical genre.
