Crazy ants dominate fire ants by neutralizing their venom

Oh, this really is about ants. I was hoping that it was another 12th football member prospect thread. I was trying to think which university has an ant as a mascot03-lmfao We totally go off topic on holidays I guess.

I actually thought about trying to use the article as some sort of metaphor for conference realignment, but it seemed like too much of a stretch...

Crazy Ants are a pain. They are very invasive. We've had some outbreaks here in Houston. Kind of makes you prefer fire ants.

http://www.extension.org/pages/30057/ant...wJZXpg25TM

Quote:The new exotic invasive pest ant in Texas, Nylanderia fulva, the "tawny' crazy ant, previously referred to as the Rasberry crazy ant, Nylanderia (previously Paratrechina) species near pubens, has caused serious problems with electrical utilities in the industrial parks near Houston (Harris County), Texas since 2002 (pers. Com. Tom Rasberry). These ants become abundant in localized areas or spots of infestation. Like other ants, large numbers of shocked ants cause short circuits and clog switching mechanisms in security systems, pumps, and other equipment.

Sports related because they could be a good mascot...very persistent. :)

I would be cool with fire ants getting some competition around here for most annoying bug. What does it feel like to get stung by a crazy ant?

They don't sting. They just destroy property. Though I would not encourage anyone to go mess around with them long enough to see what the bite is like.

So you get a choice...less property damage with the chance to get stung by hundreds of ants and the lovely experience that a fire ant sting brings. Or, you can take the crazy ant, not get stung, but watch them destroy your yard and electrical equipment.

Sounds like a poor choice either way.

I thought this could lead to someone suggesting UC-Irvine- the Anteaters...

If they stung, it would still be less painful than another Liberty self-pimping thread.

Ack...my apologies for that mistake. I jumped right through that without realizing it. (Please take it as a compliment that this Georgia boy saw "University of Texas at A_____" and immediately thought of UTA instead of the Longhorns...)
