Really? I could see the argument for Bobcat & Mav fans but not Cajuns:

Lafayette to Las Cruces - 1008 Miles

Lafayette to Boone - 870 Miles

Lafayette to Statesboro - 716 Miles

Lafayette to Lynchburg - 1027 Miles

I think he's talking accessibility (just a guess though). I figure that due to the "easier to get to" as opposed to "closer".

You'all make it sound like you have to take a mule team to get up the mountains to Boone.
While we are attacked by Indians on a regular basis....see Tweetsie Railroad, http://tweetsie.com/
We hardly ever lose a visitor to bears. Visitors just normally lose to the Mountaineers.

Yea it's real hard for a team to fly to hickory regional and drive a 4 lane for an hour or fly to charlotte and drive a 4 lane for an hour and a half

I dunno how easy it is to get to Boone... But first year we play there, I will find out. It looks to be a beautiful area, and since my only exposure to NC thus far has been Raleigh, I'm interested to see the rest of the state.

It's one of the few towns Sun Belt folks are in that I REALLY want to go to but haven't.

My North Carolina experiences is the Snow Bird Mountains, beautiful area by the way, and Washington, NC for business purposes. Never visited Washington but had lots of meetings with people there.

There is a saying in North Carolina that it runs from Murphy to Manteo.
Extreme West to extreme East. Snow Bird is near Murphy - 4 hours West of Charlotte, but only 2 hours from Knoxville, Tennessee, and not far from Georgia. I had never heard of it. Drove through Washington, NC years ago but couldn't remember anything except it's an older town.

Since this was a Sam Houston thread here are the distances from Lafayette, Arlington, and San Marcos to Huntsville, TX.

Lafayette to Huntsville - 242 miles
Arlington to Huntsville - 188 miles
San Marcos to Huntsville - 170 miles

(Huntsville is also only 62 miles from Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport and 80 miles from Houston Hobby.)

Just for comparison, here are the distances to Beaumont. 04-cheers

Lafayette to Beaumont - 133 miles
Arlington to Beaumont - 298 miles
San Marcos to Beaumont - 248 miles

(7 miles from Jack Brooks Regional, 76 miles from Houston's Bush Intercontinental, and 87 miles from Houston Hobby.)

Yeah I'm not seeing a move for SHSU within the next 3 years. We are strapped for cash. We are experiencing growing pains due to a growing student body that have reorganized our priorities. We'd love to build a top notch stadium but our academic facilities are of higher priority. You can't have 22-25k students on campus that was designed to only hold a maximum of 16k. I've been on campus recently and it is alive but super crowded. Additionally, In the state of Texas we are seeing cuts to funding and decreases in revenue bonds. Those hurt us big time. I know for a fact that SHSU wants to and has the plans to go FBS but a large percentage of FBS funding will have to come from private donations. That's why we hired a executive director for fundraising to help jump start something. Once we reach our projected enrollment goal of 25-30k and build the facilities, we will be pretty attractive to any lower tier FBS conference.

WE ARENT READY YET!!! But in about 5-10 years we will. In the mean time we just want to rack up some national championships.

Las Cruces is 50 miles from ELP and has no commercial flights. There is a minimum of one stop on flights from LFT with combined flights requiring 4-5 hours on one-stop connection with short layovers with the hour drive once you land in El Paso.

By comparison, you can fly from LFT into Lynchburg with 1-2 Stops in 5.5 to 7.4 hours combined travel time with the airport just a mile or so away from Liberty's stadium. So if you think NMSU is an easy travel option for Cajun fans, then you must love Liberty as well.

I wouldn't think Statesboro would be too hard for anyone to get to. If you can't get a direct flight to Savannah you connect from ATL to Sav, which is like a 30-40 minute flight and then a 45 minute ride up an Interstate highway.

ugh... those puddle jumper flights make me ill... I don't like them small planes they usually use for those 30 minute flights at all!

I'll definitely be driving it.

With their current attendance, facilities, and support, I would already be hesitant.

Now that we have their coach and main reason for their success, I will wait and see if they can continue extended success.

I am JUST BARELY old enough to remember it. My family took me on one when I was but a wee lad. But it was called Texas International Airlines at the time. My dad told me about it "back in the day" when it was TTA.

Holy cow, man... the memories!

Brings back memories. It got pretty large during the Frank Lorenzo years.
