Sure looking more and more
like Will should be the POY in the league. Even with his terrible game at ASU. He has outplayed most of the other teams bigs all year, including Rubit.

It will be a real shame if he misses it only because he is injured going down the stretch.

Will should definitely be under consideration. It may come down to which team wins the Belt. Other contenders are Hunter (GSU) and Payton (ULL).

RE: Sure looking more and more
I for one doubted that Will could hold his own against the big strong bigs in the league, but other than the ASU game, he has either held his own or outplayed the rest. I didn't see the ASU game, but it sounded like he was outnumbered, maybe not as badly as General Custer, but he was surrounded with Indians(sorry, Woofs). I don't care who you are, it's hard to do anything when there are two folks hanging on you the whole game. Looking forward to seeing whether or not they can shut him down again. I don't think they can, and if they do neutralize him, White should be able to shine this time. I think this team is going to miss Will next year a lot more than some think.

We'll miss him a ton, enough that we will have to revamp the entire scheme. But I don't think the cupboard is bare. I really think James White will be up to the task of the Go To guy. Just adjust and move on. But if you move on without adjusting, it will be a problem.

James should be up to the task, and if Mo Isom has grown to 6'8" or more, and will get stronger working with Coach Barron for another year, he could be a solid inside player, along with maybe Hill or Poulter and the new Juco they're bringing in who is a four according to Steve. But there is no doubt we might not see another Will Neighbour for a long time.04-cheers

No doubt we have four very good ones coming back, White, Josh, and DeVonte. Not a lot of size though. Gus is no Will, but he will be okay if he can ever learn to stay o ut of foul trouble. After that it gets mediocre to poor pretty fast. When the great Walter Johnson was asked who hit the longest ball in those days. His answer was, I don't know, but when the Babe hits one, the ball gets smaller quicker than any balls I've ever seen hit.

Well, just looking ahead.
1. DeVonte/J. T. No problems there at all.
2. Take your pick. Lots to choose from. No problem.
3. Stetson, juco, Mareik. Ought to be covered, even if not spectacular
4. James. Nuff said.
5. Gus. Fine as far as he goes, but we definitely will need a reliable back-up. Poulter needs to come along fast.

As to height, at our level if you have two guys 6-9 or taller, you are doing pretty well, and we ought to have them.

I think we'll see James more at the five next season. Gus will get all the minutes he can before getting into foul trouble. Now I have no idea what Poulter's future is. If he's still around, he'll obviously get more time than he does this year, assuming he can stay healthy. He's probably the biggest question mark (the biggest everything) on the team. If he can develop into at least a serviceable big man, it would really help.04-cheers

If he has any ability, if he does what Stetson has done, he will get PT in time. But with big men, sometimes that time does not come much before the junior year.

Everyone of those might be a future All American, but I like to see them in action before I vote.

If we can keep him around and get him 10 minutes or so a game next year, and hope he develops where he can contribute for 20-25 minutes or more his Junior and Senior seasons, that will be great.04-cheers

It's good to have a great defensive player or two, but I prefer that all be able to shoot. Never saw basketball as a two platoon game. I want all to be able to score, so that the defense has to guard all of them.

You are absolutely right. But Steve has never been able to field five shooters in his starting lineup as far as I can recall. He hasn't been able to recruit those players who are good enough to play both offense and defense, so he has to structure his offense around one or two players, and sometimes a third, and just let the others play defense. Can you ever recall a year where we ended up with three players averaging double figures? We have three right now who could, but that's unusual for Steve's teams. Usually one or two at most, and they're usually around 10-12 points. Will's 17.7 is the highest I can recall in some time.04-cheers

At the pace Steve's teams play, having three double figure scorers would be unlikely.

Actually that probably applies to Coach Foley's teams also. They look to try and get an easy shot close to the basket and/or get fouled. Especially the Lady Trojans. They seldom take a three point shot.04-cheers

I've been surprised he hasn't seen more minutes in some of the blow outs. Maybe he can't go long, but give him some minutes if you're gonna feed him another year. Maybe they just want him for the Taxi squad.
