And to simply reinforce this point you need look no further than the Athletic budgets for each school in the two conferences. It's not that complicated.

I guess when you're on the bottom it's natural to compare yourselves to those above you. Funny that the C-USA board is not so preoccupied; I wonder why?

Wonder why? It's because you're riding off the name of schools now departed.

Have faith, it will most likely come crashing down on your head.

Some fans get a sense of success and self-worth from the conference they are in because they don't really get it from their program's accomplishments or current state.

This is true in the SEC, CUSA, SBC, and everywhere else.

Do you think we will still be better next year? Just curious...

I do, because I believe our teams at the top of the league will be better. Bottom half should play out about even.

The SBC will be stronger next year. A lot of folks are gigging about Ga State now but that's gonna change. They played tougher at the end of the season and they have recruited fairly well. A good second year coach and night life in Atlanta will appeal to a lot of recruits in the coming years. USA will be tougher and consistent. They dropped several close ones this past season and App State will be back. With the coaching change and probably a new offensive system, Ga. Southern may be down but it will be short term. What we now see as the bottom teams will deal some blows in the next two-three years, you can count on it. We have the makings to be a very good conference and that's why I get so turned off with the 12th member bunch that wants to be add any warm body. We could be a great football conference if we just use a little sense in the next couple of years.

Couldn't you do the same projections with CUSA schools that loss this season but showed promise? Also you could go the other direction...

both loss for a reason and that reason could get worse.

The problem with basing everything off of we are going to get bigger, stronger, better...

And CUSA assumes it's name recognition means they are above the SBC while we use the fact the scoreboard shows we are above the coosa so if we are both getting better we will beat you in 90% of match ups according to your own assumption

Care to show me this 90% winning %? I honestly couldn't tell you which SBC school beat a CUSA school other than Western and the bowl game.

So my question to you since you obviously looked and charted it....

how many of those wins are top SBC schools playing bottom CUSA schools? Also while you're at it in this winning% of 90% are you including schools that left or in Western's case leaving that won games against CUSA? That would matter...don't you think?

Basically what I'm saying is in such a small sample number a few top conference schools beating a few lower conference schools is not something I would argue my point on which is better...

that might not be the case at all just pointing it out and we will see that once you show me your chart on this .900 winning%

Neither conference is going to be definitively better than the other every year, in football at least.

Not sure I understand. We are enjoying the fruits of our own labor just as Tx St is enjoying the fruits of their labor (i.e. moving from FCS to the WAC to the Sun Belt).

p.s. I was just wondering why the Sun Belt is so pre-occupied with C-USA, while other conferences appear to have moved on.

I don't think that's true at all. I think if you look at the top of the conference which most conferences are judged on other than a few power conferences...

CUSA is better than the SBC and that most likely will continue. It's the bottom that brings the conferences closer together. But honestly no one really cares about average football or below average football schools...

it's the schools that shine that gets a conference noticed and when you look at it in that context CUSA will still be better most years. At this point the number of options are just greater that 3, 4 or 5 CUSA schools will out shine the couple of SBC schools that's likely to standout.

Being a better average conference doesn't mean..."better"

It does when they start doling out football money.

That better average just rewarded the Sun Belt with more money than CUSA, even with their shining "standouts."

which amounts to what, a <$200,000 extra dollars when divided among the schools? BFD.

The only thing that will make a very big difference is if you get a team into the one access bowl spot for the G5. That likely won't be coming from the SBC or CUSA very often.

the only thing that I ever stated was that neither conference would be consistently better than the other in football. You have me confused for someone else.

Doesn't matter, once you guys add NMSU and Idaho to the mix and Ga. State isn't an automatic win for everyone else in your conference, you won't be the top G5 conference anymore anyway. The AAC and MWC will be battling for that 90% of the time.

If a school in the Sun Belt, or CUSA, for that matter, is keeping them from that access bowl with any consistency, they'll be extending an invite to keep the G5 hierarchy in place.

Still more money, and the divide will be significantly more next year. Also keep in mind that the league that gets the access bowl rep next year is far from guaranteed to win the Top AQ conference prize, those are separate deals.

The difference is less than 30% of 1% of Western's budget...

around $82,000

Again I will repeat what I said earlier..once the SBC gets to 11 schools there will be more bottom feeders and just by the shear numbers it will be harder to keep the average up just like the other conferences had this year.

But again we are talking about a very small number no matter where CUSA finishes. To you and me $82,000 might be a lot but if we were playing with a $28,000,000 dollar budget it would be about like we had to rough it on one vacation trip...

instead of eating at a 5 star...we had to drop it to a 4.5 star for but just for this one trip.
