Re: 2014 Pre-Preseason Rankings - Sun Belt
ULL @ #1, GaState/Idaho/NMSU will be fighting each other for #11 - Everything else is wide open.
Southern is too much of a question mark to pin down right now. We have a ton of talent, but with the new coaches and scheme its anyone's guess. We also have one of the easiest schedule in FBS next year, so our W/L record may look better than we are.
I'm just hoping for a winning season.

You were up 28-14 at half. You didn't score in the third quarter. Then we outscored you 22-7 in the 4th. Most of the game?
Regardless ULL still fell behind when apparently it was supposed to be an easy victory for homecoming with our "Walker" recruits. I wouldn't be surprise if this year you guys lose to us. Just saying I saw the way a really bad NMSU team played against a really good ULL team. Now just give is 3 years under better administration and some speedy sun belt recruits NMSU will be a top team in this conference. #go #aggies #DonthatetheSTATE

Ncstate has so far had a very strong recruiting season, I favor Ncstate with the geo south transitions

With the flexbone we had a good shot. With a new offense and QB, I doubt we can hang with them.
We may or may not have a new QB. We have yet to see a down of our players running this new offense, so really we can't judge wins and losses off of the new scheme either. We will hang with NC State. I have no worries about that.

I truly hope that NMSU's football program gets better and becomes competitive in the SBC but a game is 60 minutes. That would be like Louisiana holding on to the fact that we were leading ULM in our game. The bottom line when the clock said zero they had the victory. Give your program more credit and stop holding on to moral victories.

Think both NMSU and Idaho finished ahead of several CUSA and MAC teams in the final BCS rankings.
I fully expect they will compete well, and beat several SBC teams this season.

I thought that was very possible before monken left. Same with Appalachian State. Had both of you guys kept your big time coaches the impact would have been immediate. Now I think there will be some growing pains.

I think the key will be Fritz's ability to use what we have, and use them at what they are good at, and that is running the ball. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a slightly different version of his offense he normally runs, with less passes than he normally throws. Basically it will look like what Chris Hatcher did in his first year with us.
I think if he does that, the growing pains won't be too bad. I was counting the NCState game as a W before Monken left, but now that one may be tough, but I still think we win 6 or 7 games.

I'm definitely in the minority that thinks we will be better under Fritz than we were under Monken. As for the preseason rankings. I think to group us with Idaho, NMSU, Ga State, etc. is reasonable since we are a move-up. However, I will expect to finish above all of those teams.

I think Scott did fine on the overall, it's never easy replacing what is pretty much a legend, but the team seemed to start to buy in to his program by the end of the season and between the recruiting and our current players I think we got a good shot atleast to go middle of pack

Discuss.
Georgia State won't be last. Probably 9th or 10th, but not last.

RE: 2014 Pre-Preseason Rankings - Sun Belt
Hopefully with Satterfield getting his feet wet as HC last year, this year will be a smoother transition than last for App. The Apps were a much better team the second half of the season that the first hopefully showing that the coaching staff was doing a better job in coaching and preparation. I do think there is enough talent at App to compete in the Belt this year but do expect growing pains from a young team and staff. I would expect UL-L to be the favorite with the next 5-7 teams on this ranking having their moments. I like App's difficult 1st year schedule as it will be a true measuring stick of where they are in relation to FBS and SBelt.

RE: 2014 Pre-Preseason Rankings - Sun Belt
I'm not too sure about ULM at 2 but they are returning most of the defense. The lack of a returning QB starter is a real issue when you have to replace an AMAZING talent like Browning. ASU got lucky with Kennedy coming in to replace Aplin, which also gave Knighten time to mature and play in a few games. Hogan and Birse will battle Knighten this spring. Hogan is better than you may think.
I think the Funbelt will be surprised by how fast South Alabama, Texas St, and Georgia State take on competitive roles. All 3 of those schools gave ASU all they could handle before losing VERY close games.
