OT Bill Clark to UAB
FootballScoop Staff @footballscoop 20m
At UAB, look for Jacksonville State head coach Bill Clark to be the new head coach, per sources http://FootballScoop.com/the-scoop
Wade @wadechapman12 2m
#JSU HC Bill Clark has accepted the UAB HC position. Announcement expected either later today or tomorrow.
Ryan Brown @RyanBrownWJOX
On the @footballscoop Bill Clark to UAB report: someone in his circle asked me extensively about that job. I know there's interest.
Bill Clark was the DC at USA two years ago. And the JSU head coach this year that posted a school record 11-4 record at the FCS level.

Both sides have interest but not even close to a deal yet. It would be a nice hire, though.

He will be a good hire for Uab... I'm hoping he turns it down.... I wanted him after Larry.

RE: OT Bill Clark to UAB
Sorry UAb, but I think Clark would be better off staying at JSU for another year and take the Troy job next year. I realize it would be a substantial raise from what he is making now, but UAb has never been a stepping stone job. Until things change there I don't see it as a place for an up and comer to continue his upward motion.
Contrary to popular belief, I would like to see UAb succeed, at some level. That way when South beats you, it just means that much more.

Agreed!
Not saying Troy will hire him. But I bet he gets a look for sure. Stay at JSU 1 more year Mr Clark!

In all fairness to UAB, neither Troy nor USA have sent coaches up the ladder in the FBS ranks. That being said, its a nice situation for USA when an assistant coach gets a FBS HC job less than a year after leaving an Asst coach position at South Alabama.
UAB has 'structural problems'. But so does Jax State. At least UAB is covered by its local media. Jax State is in a complete media blackout zone. I don't see the UAB HC position as being desirable, but I wouldn't see Jax State as being terribly desirable either. Is it that hard to get 6 wins for UAB? Next year they play Troy at home (which they could win), Alabama A&M at home (which they should win), and two games that they should lose OOC. So they need to find 4 wins in CUSA. I don't know who they're slated to play, but USM, ODU, FIU, and FAU are all possible wins. 6 is really doable for them.

RE: OT Bill Clark to UAB
There's also the not-inconsequential matter of salary.
UAB could pretty much triple what he's making at JSU to be in the ballpark for what we were paying McGee.

I heard JSU was working on a pay raise too... I doubt it's 500k but if they could play 250-300k that might be enough to make him stay.

Possible. Drum up his interest in the UAB job to get more from JSU. Coaches and their agents do it all the time.

I have no idea... If they did they would be a top paying FCS program.
I would say no...

He does have a $400K buyout at JSU.

I just meant that JSU comes out good either way. I know McGee has a higher buyout.

JSU may not get a lot of media coverage, but they get the same as UAb in Birmingham. And most of the media coverage to UAb football is negative.
True, South has not put any headcoaches to a better job, but we are still on our first coach and only 5 years old, UAb has had plenty of opportunity to do it, and hasn't. It would not surprise me if CJJ were to successful next season that his name doesn't start being mentioned somewhere. And South is set up for success a lot more then UAb is.
