@harponsports: Let's see if this tweet gets ganked as well. My sources tell me Vandy's Brent Pry is #1 choice to replace Jeff Monken in Statesboro.

My sources tell me the same thing and I HOPE it's true.

I want use to stay with the Spread Option, It is Ga. Southern's offense and calling card.

I hope Jasper is on the look list!

Ivin Jasper is entering his 14th year at the Naval Academy, his 12th as the quarterbacks coach and his sixth as the offensive coordinator. He has been an integral part of a staff that has brought the Midshipmen back into the national spotlight with an 83-45 (.648) record over the last 10 years, that includes nine bowl games and eight Commander-In-Chief's Trophies.

Derrick Dooley would be an awful hire. His neck teams were average and his Tennessee teams were awful

Yeah, option needs to stay. Don't know enough about Jasper's potential as a head coach to agree or disagree, but he's an intriguing candidate (if he is a candidate).

Heard today they are trying to get candidate field down to 4 to conduct interviews. Supposedly right now there are dozens on the list, both option oriented coaches and non-option coaches. I am hoping this gets sped up some and we have a new coach in place by end of next weekend (Jan. 5). Our AD is very busy with this search right now and I don't expect others to get involved very much until he has it down to 4-5 main candidates.

RE: Georgia Southern Coaching Search
IMO Ga Southern absolutely should remain a triple option team. First of all it is a good offense. Second you can find plenty of great athletic quarterbacks that do not want to play db for some BCS program. Third nobody in this conference and pretty much any conference faces this offense enough to be disciplined enough to really control it.

Of course not every year but many years if the opponents want to beat Ga Southern they will have a high scoring affair. A game where you had better make the most of your opportunities as they will eat up yards and time while closing the deal with a touchdown.

If on the other hand they go with a more traditional offense they will have no special advantage.

RE: Georgia Southern Coaching Search
I agree with you CajunExpress. The last time Ga. Southern tried to go away from the triple option in 2006 it was a disaster. That ushered in a 4 year period in Ga. Southern football that was one of the worst periods in our history. We have recruited to this offense for 4 years when Monken was here. If we totally go against that with a new coach in my opinion the transition to being competitive in the Sun Belt will be even harder, and it is going to hard enough as it is.

I am hoping we either hire a triple option offensive-minded coach or hire a defensive-minded coach who will bring in a triple-option offensive coordinator.

What has some Ga. Southern fans uneasy is we have a new AD who has only been here for a little less than a year and he may want to put his stamp on the program by moving away from the triple option offense.

We are apparently now interviewing candidates. Apparently we have interviewed B. Pry of Vanderbilt (co-def. coor) and I. Jasper of Navy (Off. coordinator). From what I am being told we still have 2-3 interviews to go. This seems to be moving along. I could see a new coach hired by the end of next weekend.

I would be happy with either of these great coaches.

Rumors are that GSU will interview Auburn OC Rhett Lashlee.

That is a strange fit, as the two offensive styles don't really work together. But it would certainly get attention. There was talk that Lashlee was interested in the ASU job, but seemed to expect us to come running his way rather than calling himself and making a push. He never interviewed or talked to us in the end.

Very high profile interview but I am not sure the Eagle Nation will be happy if he comes in and scraps the option next year.

I know some think that Auburn's offense is similar because its the Triple option, but its not. Auburn needs its QB's to at least have some sort of passing threat, and needs a couple decent receivers just to keep teams honest.

Blocking is similar, the concept is similar, but that's where it ends.

Lashlee will probably make a good coach someday.....but he's still 29.....right? His youth kept many stAte fans from supporting him.

Coaching Search (who has been pretty spot on with these things the past couple of years) says there is no interest on Lashlee's part for the GASO job. I think it is good idea for you guys to stay away from him. He really isn't ready to take on a FBS program on his own.

Happy with the pool that we have right now. Pry or Jasper will make me happy

FootballScoop Staff ‏@footballscoop 26m
At Georgia Southern, we hear Pry would bring / stick w the triple, clearly Jasper would as well. Rhett & Zach wouldn’t. Interesting group

FootballScoop Staff ‏@footballscoop 30m
At Georgia Southern, sources tell us Rhett Lashlee, Brent Pry, Zach Azzanni and Ivin Jasper have / will interview http://www.footballscoop.com/the-scoop

FootballScoop Staff ‏@footballscoop 25m
Most of the coaches I’ve spoken with believe Pry will get the job (and think he’ll do a great job).
