MAC Buyouts
I've always said it makes it less painful when a MAC team loses a coach, if a decent buyout is involved. If the insecure BCS programs want to pay us 500k/1 mil. a pop to train there coaches, so be it.
Anyone know the buyouts involved in the recent MAC coaching changes?
Thanks.

RE: MAC Buyouts
This got covered in another thread. Buyouts are important, but good coaches won't take jobs if those are too high. Market pressures bear here too.
I personally believe that each AD needs to be after three things:
Best buyout clause in terms of cash that he can get
Negotiate a good series w/ the acquiring institution (if it makes sense) as part of the buyout
Insist that a HC be grooming a successor, and monitor the situation.

RE: MAC Buyouts
Quinn's Buyout is the remaining bacis salary owned in his contract. Quinn's basic salary is 250,000. The contract is through 2017 so right now if someone wanted to hire him away..... HA! .... They would have to drop 1,000,000

Should have hired him back and negotiated that as part of the compensation.

That's all well and good until you start losing coaches left and right. Our new coach has a 3 million dollar buyout if he leaves anytime before year three, and 2 million dollars if he leaves before year 5.
Agents will try and beat you down, but you need to hold it at a reasonable point where you can pay moving expenses of a new staff, and still pocket a little bit to help future budgets.
Of course the downside is that a buyout works both ways, so if you set a high buyout, you better have a darn good coach.

It's not football, but I believe UT's WBB coach - Tricia Cullop - has NO buyout in her contract. THAT is crazy!

Geno Ford's debt to Kent State is still unpaid. Pretty sad when you bolt and expect to not be held accountable, requiring litigation.

That's not unheard of in Olympic Sports. Generally it is much easier to bring a new basketball, baseball, soccer, or whatever staff in then it is to try and hire 9 football coaches, a couple of quality control guys, and two strength and conditioning guys,

I think it may have been mentioned once that Kent State has buyouts for their basketball coaches.

I don't think that is accurate. She signed a 10 year deal last season for a hefty sum (for women's coach) and pretty sure it has a buyout Midnight.
Can you get the contract?

Sorry to have bothered you with a tale of a MAC coach buyout in a thread named "MAC Buyouts".

Toledo's WBB is not just another Olympic sport. The women had higher attendance than the rest of the MAC - women AND men - except for the Ohio men. They were around 20th in the nation in WBB avg attendance. They are 1 of only 3 or 4 teams (not sure if that is the exact numbers) to win 20+ games the past 4 or 5 yrs (again, not completely sure if that is the number).

Quote:Her contract never included a penalty for leaving and states she must give four days advance written notice of her intention to terminate the deal.

RE: MAC Buyouts
Arkansas State is getting tired of hiring coaches....New coach Blake Anderson's deal is 5 years at $700k per and his buyout is $3 million for the first two, $2 million on the second two and $1 million on the last year...
