Hard to say. If the cajuns hadn't crapped the bed a couple of times this season, I think they would've made it this year. I know they are losing Broadway and you don't lose a QB like that and think everything will be honky dory.

I think that TxSt has a chance at the top 25 in 2015. The offense that was made up mainly of freshmen and sophomores will all be juniors and seniors by that time. The defense, if it can find replacements at the D-line in 2014, should be decent as well.

If we went undefeated next season, we MIGHT get a few votes for top 25... MAYBE.

But I don't see us going undefeated, so it won't be us cracking the top 25.

As for who will first? If the Cajuns and stAte win their bowls, and follow that up with a run through OOC, I could see either of them knocking on the door of top 25 come season end.

I was gonna vote for ULL but didn't see it on the list 05-stirthepot :jokes:

So I voted Georgia Southern

If I were forced to pick someone other than GS I would have to give the nod to App St. They have tremendous name recognition due the that win over Michigan and they are a beast of a recruiter. Plus since most polls are human polls those two aforementioned facts coupled with a really good record should just about do the trick.

That is why I voted App State - name recognition (which is half the battle for G5 teams).

It will be Ga Southern. It takes attitude to get in the top 25 and that is what our program is built on. Our coaches and players genuinely went into FL to win the game and believed they could do it. That is half the battle. Our team will be intimidated by no one.

George bush still had a year left in office when that happened. Think it's time to let that go. Sound like when cajun fans talk about beating A&M in 1996. Those seniors for App st in that game are almost 30 years old now. The human polls will not take into account what an fcs move up did 7,8,9 10 years ago. In this conference you will have to prove it on the field without a doubt. You will have to pass the eye test. You will have to beat a team or 2 from power 5. Not just win, beat them. You can't be plus 7 in turnover margin, they will say it's a fluke. Teams like bama, lsu, Ohio state get benefit of the doubt, not us.

Before posting you should have made note of who mentioned the michigan game, most of our fans understand that is now in the past and I never bring it up, if it enters a convo with another fan base it is because they mention it.

Yes and they mention it because that is what they know about App St. Present company excluded of course.

You guys had a run in a miracle season which ended in the semifinals. We did that 13 times and made it to 8 championships. That winning attitude is engrained in the program. Lol all you want.

Not trying to lump you all in, but are all SBC Georgia people going to be this ridiculous? Georgia Southern people seem really upset about Georgia State or something. I don't know what it is but this guy above me is either insane or slow. Not sure which.

That should be obvious by who I replied too, regardless of who brings it up, it's pointless. Anyone who thinks someone would base their poll vote on app state beating michigan 8 years ago doesn't know how those votes work. Teams in sunbelt will never receive that respect...ever. We will constantly have to go above and beyond on the field to get respect nationally. I'm speaking for all of us, when it comes to that we are all in the same boat. People will always find a reason to not vote us. That will not change until the sunbelt gets more bowl tie ins and a better tv deal. We have beaten cusa and MAC on the field the last couple years. 7 of 8 teams in our league are bowl eligible. If you polled the nation, who do you think the majority would say is the worst conference?

That wasn't a miracle season. It was a good one. Your winning attitude is super and all, but your attitude is not the prevalent quality necessary for wins.

Which is why I say... LOL

We'll just have to put this in the category of "if you haven't been there, it is just hard for you to understand." Now a Bama fan would understand perfectly.

So I guess you should take it from a fan who HAS been there through a transition...

In fact, I'll go ahead and be willing to put (proverbial) money that you aren't the first top 25 team in the Sun Belt.

How about this: Georgia Southern gets to top 25 first, and for the rest of that season, I'll rock the avatar of your choice and change the signature to whatever you want.

Another team makes it first? Well, I get the same opportunity with your avatar/signature. (naturally, this will be limited to things that will not get each other put on a gov't watch list or banned from the site)

I went with TXST. Just a gut feeling. App and GaSou have some growing to get out of the way. In at best two probably three years I believe GaSou and App will have just a good a shot as anyone else at that point.

A serious guess would be Texas State. Good recruiting area and a solid coach.

I just think next year is the year the Sun Belt gets a top 25 team.

Given that, I don't see our schedule being strong enough to warrant a top 25 finish.

I could see it with the Cajuns, though. Maybe stAte, I haven't checked out their schedule.

I went with UL. It was between them and stAte. At the g5 level you have to prove yourself for multiple years before u get a nod. If they can go 10-2 or better they crack the top 25, depending on when and to whom the losses come.

That's why the losses at the end of the season killed me for the Cajuns. If they ran the table, won their bowl game... They'd be sitting pretty for the start of the season next year.

A couple good wins out of conference, and they'd be right there at the door if not already in the top 25.

I agree, the only players the Cajuns are losing on offense: Center (Andre Huval), Wr, Punt and Kickoff returner (Darryl Surgent), both TE's (Ian Thompson and Jacob Maxwell). Defense: Linebacker (Justin Anderson). I think the Cajuns will have one of Coach Hud's best teams if everyone stays healthy and we pickup some good recruits.
Huval and Anderson will be hard to replace!.

RE: CFB [POLL] - Who'll be our first Top 25 Team?
GATA Sun Belt mo-fros. I promise you messageboard dweebils this:

Georgia Southern will not only be the first Sun Belt program to crack the top 25, the Eagles will be the first Sun Belt team to crack the top 10, the top 5, be ranked No. 1 during the presesaon, regular season, and be the first Sun Belt school to not only get in, but win a BCS title --- or whatever they're about to call the new four-team playoff, which is a joke and should be more inclusive but that's another story -- and GSU will be the first team to break away from the Sun Belt and go straight to the NFL, bypassing the SEC and whoo-eee we're badass. Just ask us.

A disclaimer: All of this is in the 15-month premium plan which says by February 2015 we'll have our first FBS title and seventh in the program's short but illustrious and incomparable history which tops all others and gives our fan base reason to puff out our collective chests and suck in our beer wellies and show that our gonads are hairier and bigger and smarter and cooler than more gnat infested than other gonads and if you don't believe that you probably got snot running out your nose and glasses and are stupid and shouldn't be alowed on a messageboard talking with our greatness.

No quarter asked, none taken, none given, none exchanged for nickels and dimes and 50 cent pieces.

(Love that pirate stuff. So nifty. AR wish Ir'd thought of it first. Ahoy arrrggghhhh shiver me limbers and find me sommmmeee plundeerrrr .... argh me be so clever. Got me flag with skull and crossbonesferanavatarharrrrrr))

PS. Merry Christmas.
