A lot of this questioning will be ending when we see who really shows out in spring practice and who is added by or after 2/5/14. UAB fans know better than to count chicks before the eggs hatch.

His first spring against college speed, I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Whoever the coach' start, it will be considered a horrible choice by the fans and they will be clamoring for the backup.

I'm pretty sure the new guy is Briscoe, but that's only based on the spring game.

I guess JB is doomed because of a bad spring game as a true freshman.

Having watched several of the practices this year I would not underestimate Mr. Brisco's ability. Don't judge him just on one spring game which was shortly after he arrived on campus.

Agreed completely. I forgot about Taz coming in next year as someone just mentioned. It will be interesting to see if Mcgee goes with a dual threat true freshman.

I doubt we'll have the next Heisman candidate on our team, nice though it'd be to have that. We're more in the Houston w/ Keenum & qb before him when they just tried to outscore their opponent & I'm not sure we could get that kind of offense production

Not even an equal comparison. We faced two offenses that were among the worst in the nation offensively when we faced them. Both of them set records for the season in every offensive category against our defense.

We couldn't stop a baby from crawling across midfield.

Our offensive woes were a direct contributor to losses vs Troy, FAU, MT, Rice and USM.

It is after all, a TEAM sport. If the offense doesn't carry its weight by staying on the field for its share of time, the defense can't keep "fresh" when "3 & Out" is common. The QB is usually an important factor in an offense staying on the field while keeping the opponent's offense off the field. QBs must "read" defenses and be able to "feel" what the opponent's defense will do - blitz, double cover a receiver, zone or man to man coverage, etc. The QB and the center are the only players to handle the ball on every play so their level of play is critical.

The DL must control the line of scrimmage and put pressure on the other team's QB so he can't have time to wait for WRs to escape coverages. Our radio announcer repeatedly spoke of the USM QB (Mullins) having "plenty of time" to find an open receiver while describing our QB (Perry) as being constantly harassed and under pressure almost every play all day. That is a recipe for the kind of game we had.

That is true, but this thread is about discussing our QB situation for next season. Defense might take years to fix...

Are the 2 frosh QBs the only ones that can be "red shirted" in 2014? If they are removed from the QB mix, I would think we will be playing mainly two QBs who didn't get to play this season. If Coach McGee thought they were just "place holders", he would likely have played at least one of them this season. If Austin Brown can come back a lot stronger by fall, he may well be in the mix, but if not, he will be bench strength in 2014.

Say what you will, but I'm saying he starts. He won the job in the fall and it is his to lose next year (and he won't lose it).
