Open letter to the Go Daddy Bowl from a native Mobilian
You should pick Arkansas State over Western Kentucky

Picking Western Kentucky over a team that may tie for the Sun Belt Conference Championship downgrades the Sun Belt, to which your bowl depends upon for its future relevance. It could create additional problems for the stability of the conference if a bowlless champion starts actively looking for the exits.

This isn't about WKU. Its about the Sun Belt, and by extension, the football community in Mobile.

And no, USA shouldn't get a bid even if they beat ULL on Saturday. We had our chances and blew them. Especially against Southern Utah.

I think stAte should (and will) get the bid as well. They are #2 (worst case). I do think that the Sun Belt is going to have it's perception hurt one way or another this postseason by having so many teams left in the cold.

Doing the right thing has never been a strong suit of the SBC.
This would not be the first time that the number 2 team was not given a bowl. In fact two of the past three years the number two team was left out in the cold.
Congratulations to ASU for being the beneficiary of a sudden attack of conscience by the SBC administration.

First of all, congrats ASU on the bowl bid...

A bigger threat to everyone in the Belt is having the exact same teams in the NO & Mobile Bowls for 3 straight years. If I am any other SBC team, your percentages are very low at making a bowl if ULL wins 6 games.

That has to stop. It's not really good for the schools involved, not good for the schools not involved, not good for the conference.

One of the worst things about college football is the beauty pageant aspects. I hate beauty pageants. We don't take a poll to see who wins the Alabama-Auburn game. We play the game. But we DO take a couple of polls to see who the Top 25 teams are and who plays in the championship game. Deciding any athletic question with a survey is silly.

Bowl selection is worse. It's not even a beauty pageant of the teams, but of a whole host of non-sports related stuff on top of the team's records.

You can't make it "fair" but you can make it better.

It is a whore-fest . . . some of those bowls pay way too much to individuals who just help manage one event per year.
